Perhaps you really don't KNOW there is a god, or that one religion has the right interpretation.

But you think it is a good idea for people to believe in God and/or follow some religion.

Does this describe you?

No. It does not describe me.

I do not think it is a good idea for anyone to believe in something for which they have no evidence.

I do not think it is a good idea to stop questioning and analyzing things.

I understand some people do think this way. I think this is because they are setting themselves up as morally & intellectualy superior to the majority of other humans. (Assuming that they do not believe in a god but think it is good that others do.)

I really think that they think they can be happy and moral without a god but that 'the majority' cannot. Really none of us are that different from each other, some are just more willing to look at this issue and make decisions for themselves where others find it easier & more comfortable to believe in a non-existent entity.

These same people often think the majority of humans can not function in society (i.e. without raping & killing people ) without having an omnipresent policeman watching over then - oddly enough a view which is shared with many fundamentalist Christians....take from that what you will.

Books like Shermer's 'The Science of Good & Evil' explain that morality is there and is part of being human. It really has little to do with a belief in God. (At least I think this is what this book says, I have not read it fully yet but the people I know who have tell me it is about this).

Good question though. I would like to know how many people like this there are out there.

First of all believing in God is simply a learn ed belief from man not from God, and man has taught one to believe religion is the only way, I was raised in the catholic religion but now that I have grown up and started using my mind and reasoning I find it to be a cataclysmic religious scam created by a few men long long ago, and most intelligent people today stand back and observe the religious insanity that is in the world today and what it creates, war hunger hatred and extream violence, and one wants to belong to religion that creates all of this mankind will surly destroy himself through religion.

Hey! That's a loaded question. You're asking people to be honest about their religious beliefs . . . and that's a contradiction in terms. If people could be truly honest about their religious beliefs, they wouldn't have any!

In as much as people profess to have beliefs: yes, I believe in beliefs.

In as much as beliefs are real and based on an unbroken line of logic: no, I don't believe in beliefs. Religious beliefs are based on the authority of the religion: in other words, religious beliefs are closed systems . . . circular logic. I believe delusional is the technical term for it.

Religious beliefs or faiths or whatever you want to call them, they're built on a foundation of authority. The problem is that there are many faiths. Obviously, beliefs are no better than the authority they're based on -- at best, only one is right. In reality, NONE are.

Yes I know there is a God. And I think it is a good idea for people to believe in God. But that is their own choice if they do or not. And I am not trying to push it down your throats. I am just answering a question.

I'm beyond description. I'm unique in the multiverse. There will never be another me! The same is true for all of you as well!

Every religion can teach you something, comfort you in times of sorrow, gladden your heart and calm your daily cares. Where things go awry is when the religious leaders lead the religious astray. Don't follow leaders (and yes watch your parking meters too)

Yeah, buddy!! You better believe it!! One of the many things I love about Christianity is telling a child who has lost a parent that "He is in Heaven." Not just "He's gone." or "Sorry, he is dead." But that's just one of numerous things. Seems a little bit gentler and nicer to tell the kid that he is in Heaven. Seems less harsh. I don't know if someone else said that I haven't read through all the answers yet.

I think it is totally awesome that a person is God-fearing. He won't steal or rape not because of prison alone, or being caught, but because he fears eternal hellfire and damnation. Freaking rocks. We need more Christians.

If believing in God makes you a happier, more comfortable person, I dont see what harm it does.

Just the same, if it makes you happy to read into gnosticism or existentialism, the desire for knowledge on the dimensions and the universe, that's just as well.

No it doen't describe me. I believe in God and I can prove it true.

Just like a person would not accept the prsence of a building without a builder. I do not accept the existence of this whole world without a Creator Who created it.

No. I don't think or know there is a god.
I think it is people's choice to believe what they want. I am skeptical of people who say they "Know" god and that their religion has the right interpetation of how I should live my life. I always challenge that.

No. I think it is a good idea to believe in something. I however do not agree that, that something has to a god.
