Dear James '
From one James to another,I'd advise you to look to primary sources for your religious info and not to Chick comics.

I have not read it cover to cover like I have the Bible.

I use the Catechism of the Catholic Church like a "Google Search" for Bible issues. The index on this is great ... I look up a word, goto the section, and then find what Pope's, Cardinal of Bishops, & the Bible say ... so it cross references everything for me. You can also look up Bible scripture and do a reverse search to cross refference other pieces of literature to the Bible. This is so helpful when dealing with modern issues like "Sexual slavery", & "Economic Salvation".

I would like to spend more time in the third section dealing with modern issues like "Just War's", "Capital Punishment", and "Internet" morals ... plus the other social issues. But I don't think I could read this refference piece from cover to cover without getting bored.

Check out the on-line resource to the Cat:
------- ------- -------
BTW ... if you want to deepen your faith ... use Y!A religion as "Flash-Cards" ... there is always questions here and you just need to search the "Index" of the Cat on a word like "Abortion", "Adultry", "Euthanatia" ... you'll be surprised how quick you can get the answers type in the "Cat" number (like 1030) into the attached web site - and you're strenghen your faith from using another person's curiosity and tying it to yours. Basically, all the quesitons asked here can be narrowed down to a key word, and you just have to look it up in the Cat. Great fun --- I sometimes think of it as real fun penance to align me with God.

if you read the bible it only makes sense to be catholic and to have a copy of the catechism. our seperated brothers and sisters in christ are missing out on so many blessings and truths that can be found in the one true holy catholic and apostolic church.

i am sure this question will be met with the many misconceptions that people have against the one true faith, herre are some sites of interest for them and catholics alike

www.scripturecatholic.com
www.catholiceducation.org
www.askmeaboutgod.org
www.newadvent.org
www.ewtn.com
www.fisheaters.com
www.salvationhistory.com
the questioner has already suggested the catechism which is a great one including the bible. some people need to realize that us catholics are "bible christians" as well, more so than anyone else. peace and god bless.

Absolutely. The only problem is that a lot of people who *do* read the Catechism with anti-Catholic blinders on, rather than letting the Holy Spirit enlighten them. They've already made up their minds that Catholicism must be of the devil, so they refuse to see the truth for themselves.

And I'm willing to bet by the time that I post this, at least one or two of them will have already given you some long cut-and-paste "refutation" proving just how oh-so-wrong you are.

Edit:

That Coke that I bet myself is going to taste very good here in a few minutes. :-)

I have not only read it but have both a very new one as well as an old one and if you want an understanding of the bible, all you need do is read it and study it to see that Catholicism is not the way to go if you want to do what the bible says. Where is Sunday worship in the bible mentioned or an ever burning Hell or even a place called purgatory? All are made up by the Catholic church and if you do any study of the catechism, you will find it boldly stated that the Catholic Church changed the solemnity from the Seventh day to the first day of the week, a change which there is no scriptural authority. Sorry to burst your bubble but it is the truth. check out your history books or better yet, go ask your priest. If he is honest at all about it, he will tell you it is a Catholic institution, not biblical. To check out more truth as comes from the bible alone, check the site below.

There was a question about purgatory and so many answer without knowing anything about our church. Is frustrating, they confuse the doctrines, they tell lies which they probably think is true. Is mostly ignorance, if they were educated then they woud see why the Catholic church does some things.

Bravo!
Read It?
Raised on it.
You can't truly follow the Bible without having the understanding to approach it properly. If you think that is bull, I suggest all who disagree go right outside and replace the head gasket on your automobile. You can't? Why not? I can. I've been taught how. Gone to trade school. Done it for 30 years. Same way with faith. Christ taught His disciples and apostles for 3 years and only when the Holy Ghost filled them could they fathom what He taught them. And you think we can all just pick up a bible and glean the absolute depth of God's will on your own? What a trivial thing you make of Him.

Where the Bishop is, there let the multitude of believers be;
even as where Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church'' Ignatius of Antioch, 1st c. A.D

Yes I have, we use it in CCD and RCIA classes as well.
Not only that, we have started using the Baltimore Catechism so the younger classes can understand it better due to its question and answer format.

If you really read and believe the Word of God, then you know that the Church Christ founded is "the pillar and foundation of truth", because the Word of God says so. Therefore, if you truly follow the Word of God, you will look to His Church to provide you with truth. Especially since He told His Church "whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven"; "the Holy Spirit will guide you to all truth"; and, "he who hears you hears Me". We know this because the Word of God tells us so. We also know that reading the Word of God without the guidance of the biblical Foundation of truth, His Church, cannot provide us with truth. We know this because those who have adopted this unbiblical tradition have fragmented into thousands of conflicting manmade denominations, in direct violation of the stated will of God, "that they all may be one". And conflicting beliefs always means false beliefs. Truth cannot conflict with truth.

I have read the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
But I do not need to understand Catholism.
I rarely debate.
To honestly debate, I will only debate the parts that are not true Biblical scripture.
I need only to love, follow, accept and believe in Jesus Christ.
