There is no logic to it. Just like cops, teachers, and fire fighters are underpaid.

Hi Tommy,
With me being an Army wife, I wonder the same thing. It makes no sense to me why some people get to live lavish lives running back and forth on a football field, basketball court, or just lifting a nine iron. A soldier protects these sport pros and makes it to where they can keep living their lives. The running that a soldier does is in the AM for PT and running from door to door looking for insurgents...or just running for their lives or to save a comrade. It would be nice if soldiers made what they are actually worth. Even if you guys never did make millions of dollars, you are all richer than anyone on Earth, because you gave all that you have. Some gave their lives and there is no amount of money anyone can give for that. HOOAH!

When does logic become logical. Sports figure get there huge sums of money because of their talent and the gate draw they have because of this talent.
A military men doesn't go into the military for the money. I don't exactly know how many men/women are in the military now, but can you imagine the government paying all of them even half the pay of a professional athlete. Military personnel due get a lot of benefits: free housing, fairly decent medical care, a chance to travel, free schooling in some cases that carry over into civilian life.
There are a lot of jobs out there that deserve more than they earn. Teachers, nurses, health care workers, policemen to name just a few. Most people select those jobs that they think they will enjoying doing and don't consider the money.
But, to be perfect truthful, I don't really understand the humongous amounts of money athlete or movie stars make. It just seems to outrageous.
However, the life of most pro athletes is rather short and the strain upon their bodies is tremendous.

There is no logic which is sad Kpbe Bryant made more money then i do and i was in the Army even the police fire dept. EMT's and Ambulance workers get paided less than an NBA player. Even the baseball players make more than any body in the Armed forces. That's really sad :(

Why do more people know how long Paris Hilton stayed in jail but don't know who their state senators are? Why does the average man spend ten times more money on porn than he'll ever spend on a charitable organization? Why is it the defense budget in America is the largest in the world, but soldiers had to "make" their own armor out of scraps for the first few months of the war? All about priorities
Also, people have to pay to see NBA players slam dunk, why would they pay for a soldier to risk his life in service to his country? The news provides that free of charge. I say let the military do endorsements, "this war brought to you by Haliburton." Instead of having a uniform, have them wear one of those NASCAR sponsored suits. You want to pay the soldiers more, go to your senator and say I want to pay more taxes.

The gov't is not paying NBA players, the NBA is. And since we (as a society) continue spending enough money on their products they keep paying them (the players) more money.
I have wondered this about movie stars and how important they think they are, but really if we all stopped going to the movies they'd be broke real quick. But we aren't all going to do that, so they'll continue making millions.

Because people are stupid enough to pay the outrageous charges to see some inflated ego, self centered shallow 'athlete' show off. Then the 'children' whine they don't get paid enough! Gag!
I once read where a major league baseball player told a kid he'd have to pay $50 for an autograph! These are people kids look up to??
I won't even watch that disgusting cow plop on TV.

I agree with you . .im joining the army this summer.
But the reality is . . it is a lot harder to get into the NBA/MLB/NHL/NFL/MLS than it is to get into the military. Military is voluntary. People volunteer to join the military and volunteer for the conditions they are going to be put in.
And also . . Pro players are being paid because of the ticket sales/endorements/etc. Millions of people pay a lot of money to watch them play, wear their uniforms, and buy anything they endorse.
Military is being paid by tax payers. Military gets paid more money = people pay higher taxes.

Dont get me wrong the pay does suck but: You have to take in to consideration the free health care also.
Since Aug I have had: an infection in my knee er visit 2X plus a clinic visit, -- meds for that. 6 stitches in my foot crutches x-rays to make sure that it wasnt broke, lab test for preg. and a miscarriage and a bunch of sonagrams. I couldnt imagine the cost of what this would have been.

Consider the fact that life is not fair, and our country has ignored since its beginning that history proves a well paid and funded military provides security for the country.

Because NBA players provide "entertainment". Soldiers remind people of real life and its ugliness.
