Buy yourself a stainless steel 12 guage shotgun, or buy what is called a bang stick. Be real careful too.

You cut the leader once you land the beast. Don't put your hand anywhere near the mouth of a toothy Mako shark. Threshers don't have huge teeth, only nubs, but they can break your leg if they whip their tail and hit you. Some use a 12-gauge shotgun to shot the shark before putting it on the boat. Others tie it up to an extension platform on the stern. If those ways don't seem pleasing, you are going to have to gaff the shark, usually two gaffs with two people, and hoist it on the boat. Just be careful when you go near it. Makos could live a few hours out of the water.

I suggest you use a barracuda or white fish as the bait. Make sure the bait is still alive. That increases your chance to get one. And when you do catch one, you can release it or you can eat it if you want to. That if, the shark is not on the list of endangered species. Here in Malaysia we have a dish that is made from sharks. And it's delicious, i tell you.
