He might not want them invading his territory. Try feeding them in different rooms or at different times. Hope you like the anwser, if you do tell me.

Cats are solitary creatures in the wild (with the unique exception of lion prides). After a cat kills something, it will eat what it wants, and then hide the rest. Some cats bury their food, others stash it in trees or under bushes. Your cat is telling you quite clearly that his food is no longer 'safe' in his eyes.
Maybe once the kittens leave, you should put off fostering any more until your kitty passes- it sounds like he's set in his ways, and very stressed to have newcomers in his home.

He's hiding it because he knows there are other cats in the house and he doesn't want them to find it.To keep him from doing this, take all rugs, blankets, towels, etc. out of the room or move him to a rugless room.Trust me this helps it happened to me once and now the new cat I got is doing it.
god bless you for fostering the kittens!!!!!
my mom's a vet so I watch what she does.

That is so cute of the cat. lol.. Cats always amaze me with their ways. As others stated, he's protecting his little food. He might stop it after so long. He needs to get use to the kittens.
