When I was an atheist I didn't get hate mail,no one called me childish names and I wasn't bombarded with personal insults by people who don't even know me or by anyone who does know me for that matter. Now that I'm a Christian,I get all of this. Please understand,I'm not complaining or whining as some like to accuse when I speak of hate and intolerance.I know it all comes with the territiory because Jesus told us it would. Freedom of speech is ok for everyone, unless they are a Christian doing what Christians are supposed to do which is to witness the gospel of Christ.Just today,an atheist told me to stop trying to convert people. Actually,I have heard and read more from atheists who are trying to convert Christians."God loves you"is called offensive and condescending and God is mocked by people who say they don't believe God exists. Those who refuse to be open minded tell me to be.Hypocrisy? So,do YOU think Jesus was right when He said the world would hate us just as the world hates Him?

Some atheists say "I don't" or "I haven't" just as I didn't when I was one, but that does not alter the fact that MANY do. Personal experience is my source. Again, I'm not complaining because I know what the Bible says about this.
I strongly disagree with anyone who claims to be a Christian and says Jesus did not die to pay for our sins. Of course, those who killed Him were not aware of this.
God does love us. How did He take care of the problem that He can not allow sin to enter into heaven? He came to us in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ and provided for the remission of sins. He didn't have to, but to sacrifice for someone you love can be understood by most people.
I know it's popular to deny this, but our nation was founded by Christians upon Christian ideals. Yes, we bring our beliefs into every issue. Don't you?
My question was simply, "Do YOU think Jesus was right? Read the responses Christians get and be honest.
It's not necessary to be hostile when you disagree.

I dont think the idea that atheists are closed-minded and intolerant towards Christianity is purely anecdotal. At this point we can safely say that this one is fact.

Whats happening as time goes with the secularization of society, is youre going to see more and more polarization. Atheistic professors dont just politely suggest God doesnt exist and leave it at that. They are compelled now to go so far as to drive believers and their beliefs into the ground and degrade them in front of the whole class. And recently they have no problem giving them poor grades to underline their objection.

Unfortunately as time goes on its probably just going to get worse unless the secular movement loses steam which I dont think its about to. All that is going to lead to is the unconstitutional restriction of our religious freedoms and more hatred, as Jesus said it would.

I've never taken "God loves you" as an insult, but as an expression of that individuals caring for me. I'm an atheist, and see no problem with it. What makes me squirm a though (and may be the reason some get so riled up) is that for some disturbing reason the influence of Christianity in America is saturating. We can no longer hear about politics or social issues WITHOUT having religion thrown in, instead of looking at the subject objectively. The rise in Christian fervor seems linked to the perceived idea that the "End Times" are here. There is nothing different between our times turmoil and that of 2000 years ago, except that technology brings it to us faster, and the killing made more efficient. I could go into missions and cargo cults, and how the two correllate, and how missions are taking advantage of less sophisticated people, but I could be here all night.

Diana you see,
It is not possible to spread a net while the bird you are trying to trap is watching. You can see what the world cannot see.

The world will alway hate you once you are not part of it. Your identity is change once you come to Christ. You are now mark as an heir of the Kingdom of God. And the devil is looking ofr slight chances to persecute this ones.

Jesus was perfectly right by saying that. Its like the moral black whole which scientists say it defy the law of nature. But cannot never cease to be part of it.

Through Jesus the world was created but the world rejected Him. Think about it. Very deep.

Count it all joy whne the world hates you. For great is your reward in heaven. Go on and please God always.

Not only do I believe Jesus was right, I feel he was actually preparing us of what could lie ahead. It's hard and takes a very strong person to stand up for their beliefs, rather than go along with the crowd, or cave in to peer pressure.

But I must also say, I have seen some Atheists on Y!A who are very considerate of Christians (not cursing Christians or name-calling, etc.), and even if we disagree, I think that's very strong of them also and I admire them for that. (That was sincere; I hope that didn't sound condescending.)

Jesus is The way, The Truth and The Life. No one shall get to be with our Father in Heaven except through Him. He was right when He said the world would hate us as it hates Him.

Oh yes! Diana you can be absolutely sure Jesus was right..that's why He warned us. He also said every time we are misunderstood or persecuted because of Him..( or for His sake ) we are blessed. It starts to feel really good to be in such Awesome company, when we take up the cross and follow Him...because only those of us who know Him share this privileged life, that some have no knowledge of..it actually makes me feel quite special..lol xxx
Shalom

Added: I personally have no criticism of atheists..or any other people on R&S.....

I agree with PIT, yes the world will hate us because they are scared of what they don't know or don't understand. But that shouldn't stop us from spreading the word, the worlds only going to get worse and most likely so are the people in it but remember that God is with you therefore nothing can truely harm you.

I don't believe jesus existed so he can't have said that. If everybody was a atheist the world would be a better place, as there wouldn't be so much to judge others by. I don't like being preached at from all directions, so keep your beliefs to yourself!

Well I am an Atheist, and you can tell me God loves me any time you like, and I don't try to convert anyone, and I don't mock your God, or any ones God!
It is easy to tar us all with the same brush.
Atheists and believers.

Count them as blessings sister.

"Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children! Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers. Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven. This is how the prophets who lived before you were persecuted." (Matthew 5, 9-12)

Peace and every blessing!
