you should never consume less calories than is required by the basal metabolic rate. if you do the metabolism will slow further than it is already and the body will utilize even less fatty acids for use as energy.
starving the body has never worked for fat loss and it never will. it goes against everything that is required by our biology to function at optimal levels of efficiency

noooooo At 500-800 cals your body goes into starvation mode and won't shed weight. Instead, it'll hold on your body fat even more so because you're not feeding your body enough to function efficiently and properly. 1200 cals might be too low depending on your height and weight. This might be why you aren't losing anything. I agree with the other post here that you should increase your cal intake but space them out throughout the day as 5-6 minimeals.
The act of eating and digestion burns cals. The more you can get this mechanism going, the more you'll burn and ultimately you'll raise your metabolism by doing so. Higher metabolism means your body will start burning more calories than usual. And eventually this will start burning off excess fat.
With a raised metabolism you'll burn more in just sitting, in sleeping- in everything you do. Other ways to increase metabolism is through exercise. If you hate the idea of exercise- then go out for regular walks (daily for at least 20-30 minutes). Also - some weight training is a great way to rev up your metabolism. Toning your muscles inherently kicks up your metabolism through the tearing and repairing muscle tissue aspect of weightlifting. On top of that you become toned which physically is an added bonus in reshaping your body the way you want it. The secret to weight loss is move more + eat less.
Of course, you can mess up this formula if you become too extreme with either of those factors. If your body becomes overtaxed because you go too much one way with one of those factors (the eating or the exercising) your body will resist change because it senses stress and deprivation and then goes into survival mode.
Also be aware of what you're taking in at 1200 cals. Is your diet healthy here? What kind of calories are you consuming? Are they a balanced proportion of carbs, proteins and fats that can leave your body and mind feeling satiated after every meal? Or is it an unbalanced diet that isn't feeding your muscles and mind well enough to do their jobs?
Just remember starvation mode will do you no good in the long term for your weight loss. One good way to go is with a healthy support group. Weightwatchers is a great way to go as is Peertrainer.com

You should really try a 1000-1200 calorie diet.
Sometimes a 500 calorie diet is used for a little while to get off the last few pounds when your body plateaus.
But in my estimation 500 a day just wouldn't be healthy.

500 calories a DAY? That is just ridiculous! The exercise is a good start but you really should consume a minimum of 1500-2000 calories so that your body can FUNCTION PROPERLY! If you deprive your body of those calories that it needs to burn, it will start to not only dissolve your fat to get its calories (which you may find attractive...at first) but you will not like it when it starts to eat away at your muscles because it needs the calories and the protein. Be smart about those calories you take in and do not just load up on junk food. Good luck and I hope that you are smart about your plan to drop the pounds.

if you excercised for 3 hours a day you would have to eat minimum 1200-1500 calories otherwise you would drop dead. any diet less than 900-1000 is anorexic.
Do not set unreachable goal. start off with a diet of 1200-1500 calories and .5 to 1 hour a day. and work your way up.

DEFINITELY NOT!!! anything less than 1200 calories a day is not good at all for you in the long run it will cause you to gain more weight. Just try 1200 calories a day eating whole wheat bread and lots of fruits and vegetables drink enough water but not A LOT

Triple the calories and you will lose weight. You could cut the exercise down to 1 1/2 or 2 hours too.

Absolutely not. That is way too few calories for anyone. 1500 for women, 2000 for guys is about right. If you consume to few calories, the body will actually store them to prevent starvation (a built in mechanism) so you won't lose weight. The other negative of starving your body, you'll burn out because you won't have enough energy (calories) to give you strength. If you want to lose, eat enough calories, just eat food that burns off, not food that turns to fat and you'll be fine.

below 1500 calories its not healthy at all!!
I`ve been on such low diet for over 25 months while abroad (no choice with the food there), and can tell you that I`ve lost more than my share of weight! Could not even train my body, as he could not make keep any muscles (not enough proteins).
