when a dog goes in heat.. It means she is ready to have puppies and she gives of a scent to other dogs so they know she is.. So, be careful when she is outside or around other dogs.. esp. males..
Good luck with the puppy

OMG!!!
If you don't know the ABSOLUTE BASICS,you are NOT ready for ANY live animal!
"Heat" or "season" means ESTRUS!!! Willing & able to REPRODUCE!(NOT "a period"! ESTRUS is EXACT OPPOSITE of menstruation!!!)
SPAY & BE SAFE!
