If the Mormons are right and the Church did go into apostasy then Jesus was a liar and a fool. I believe He was neither and it is Joseph Smith instead who lied.

In Christ
Fr. Joseph

Bryan,

The falling away that was spoken of in Scriptures was of the last days and not at the beginning of the Church as Mormons suppose. There is absolutely no evidence either in prophecy or otherwise to support Mormon claims that Jesus did not create an enduring Church.

Sadly most of the world realy does not know what the LDS Church is or is all about. The organization wishes to present it'self as a Christian organization. The reasons being lost in all of the vast PR they produce and carefuly reconstructed history. What the world views today in reality is a very carefuly consealed big business. What the world is aware of are all the "product" of the business. Family relationships are a valuable commodity, and as such provide a big profit. Few of todays public realy are aware the basis for the "religion" was actualy the out come of an 1800 version of todays con artist. The production of a so called History, Book of Mormon. was based up on copying an 1800's novel. It was spiced up with the help of Biblical scripture mixed with the active mind of a tall tail teller. The outcome produced what others whom came into the group in the early years saw as a means to simply make money. The membership of the group really are more of a self sustaining herd of sheep to be processed. All of the real intent of the "Church" is carefuly hidden behind all manner of spirituality as it then becomes a tax free organization. You know of course, a tax free organaziton enjoys considerable exception from the IRS as an organizided Religion. When a careful examination is made of the group it soon becomes clear that the real moving force behind the SLC Headquarters is far removed from from The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Perhaps a view from the other direction may be in order

And the Bible apparently isn't good enough, you need the Book of Mormon too, oh wait and the D+C, and the Pearl of Great Price, Prophets, Ensigns, and pre-made books like Gospel principles to tell you everything that the true church already believes so you too muct believe. Then you have church where members give a talk, repeating the same stuff that is in one of these pre-made book, just in case you forget.

That was one of the main themes of Andrew Lloyd Weber's 'Jesus Christ Superstar' musical, which our bishop told us not to see or listen to.

The Gospel has been revealed many times in the history of the world. Each time there occurred an apostasy, requiring a restoration of the truth through a newly called prophet of God. Are you suggesting God was "lame?" The reality is that this was part of God's plan for our growth and development.

An apostasy also happened shortly after the original apostles were killed. This apostasy was predicted by Paul in 2nd THESSALONIANS 2:1-3.

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

To address P. I. T.'s comment, Christ's statement to Peter is full of meaning. Consider the context.

Mathew 16:15-19
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

I agree that Christ is the chief corner stone. But, the phrase could also be understood to mean that revelation (or the manner in which Peter obtained his testimony) was part of the foundation. As the chief apostle of the church, Peter was also part of the foundation according to Paul in Ephesians. Priesthood or the authority of God to seal on earth and in heaven was also part of this foundation.

People make their own choices.

OH I'm too tired to answer this one.

If you don't want to believe in an apostasy then don't -- good luck with that.

Have a nice day.

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(Matthew 16:18)

They don't read that verse apparently. Or I guess they think Jesus lied when He said the the gates of hell will not prevail against his church.

The Catholics use this verse as well to show that Peter founded the church, but that is wrong. Jesus founded the church.

The word for Peter in the greek is petros--small rock, piece of rock.
The word for rock in this verse is petra--a mass of rock, a large rock.

When Jesus said he will build his church on this rock he is talking about Himself. He is using petra(large rock) not petros(Peter--piece of rock).

Man caused the Church to go into apostacy...not God. And now it has been restored. Why is that so hard to believe?
