If he will eat apples and bananas at least he is eating something healthy... really he will only do what he sees, and if he sees you and your mom eating a nice healthy fruit salad, he might want to try and have some too, or try allowing him to pick a fruit, give him 3 choices, or when going to the grocery store, he can choose a "healthy" option... maybe some carrots and dip, or celery and peanut butter, make peanut butter banana sandwiches... my son (he is 4) loves Mc Donalds, but he also loves Subway, so if he wants a treat, I make it a very special trip to subway and he gets to put whatever he wants on his sandwich, he always picks the same things, turkery, lettuce, mayo and mustard, but he is the one who chooses it. At this age they will go thru days even weeks where 1 thing is their favorite, but by trying to introduce new and healthy things to their diet, and allowing them to make their own choices will definetly help the situation. Good Luck!

no, no, no,
your doing Great. Better than most people I know.
bananas and apples are wonderful for him. fruit goes along way. and is probably the best for him.
meats (and nuts) are a great source of proteins. That and some carbs (bread) are needed for growth.
(we can live off proteins alone, but its not recommended for the heart)
The sausage is really not that bad, in moderation. Burgers? don't let him start building a liking for Mcdonald / jack in the box / burger king / wendies = they are killers.
Don't feed him burgers anymore!!!(burgers are good if homemade and prepared properly)
just don't let him get into the habit of liking fast food type foods.
Lettuce is like 95% water and 5% fiber.(absolutely no taste. no wonder he doesn't like it) Lettuce is empty. It over almost abosolutly NO nurishment. Great for his "movements", but the fruits do just about the same thing, plus better for you,
just stay away from too much pasta, bread, sugar,(table sugar = evil, fructose = good) and caffine
oh and BOXED food? Worse thing evey.
Keep with the veggies/fruit/meats/nuts

WHen you make dinner do not cater for him make whatever you are eating and put that on his plate. If he doesnt eat it put it in the fridge. When he says he is hungery again pull it out and put it in front of him. He will eventually learn new eating habits. I know this is easier said then done i have a 5 year old that lived on fresh air. I exposed him to the same foods we are eating and he has begun to eat and enjoy new foods that he has never even be interested in.

Don't make the foods that he shouldn't eat accessible to him. He is only four, expose him to one healthy food a week. Don't pressure him to eat it just put it on his plate. eventually he will develop a taste for veggies.
This will take time and patience. The main thing is to not make the unhealthy food available in the home, not just to him but to everyone else as well. Children learn by example, if he see you eating healthy he will want to eat healthy

Get rid of all the junk food. He'll eat healthy when he gets hungry enough. Of course, this would have to be your mom's decision. I don't think she'd appreciate you throwing away her food.

Make it fun.
Try a blind taste test, he's old enough to do this.
Put a blindfold on him and feed him the stuff you want him to eat. If he likes it when he can't see it, then it's safe to say he'll eat after he knows he likes it.

What my mom does with my cousins is, she takes a peice of ............ lets say................... cut up peice of sausage and hides the peice of healthy food behind it, then feed it to him, and he'll mostly only taste the sausage.
