Do you want a different flavor?? Since you aren't saying, I will make the assumption that that is what you are looking for, you can email me if it isn't.

I think this depends on what your friend likes. If she likes chocolate - I have a great recipe. It also depends on who is coming to the party, how many are coming, and what age group you are baking for.

It also depends on you comfort with baking.

HMMMM - email me if you want and answer these questions and I will try to help you find what you need - I am a professional baker and make alot of differnent cakes and have lots of recipes and ideas. I am serious! Promise.

On the back of either the Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines lemon cake mix is a recipe for a lemonade cake thats good and there is a mix for an orange cake of some kind out now. Those would be good or something like a pineapple dump cake (sounds nasty, but is GOOD!) would be good too. Also, there is a recipe for a black russian cake.

My grandmom used to put rasberry jam in between the layers of a chocolate cake, it made it taste really classy. Alternitively, here is a recipe for flourless chocolate cake - it is very dense and very rich and VERY yummy. I like to serve it warm with coffee ice cream. It doen't rise, it looks more like a brownie.

Flourless Chocolate Cake

8 oz good bittersweet chocolate, chopped (use good chocolate)
2 sticks (1/2 lb) unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 large eggs
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, plus additional for dusting

Put a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 350F. Butter a 10 inch spring form pan, line bottom with a round of parchment or wax paper and butter paper.

Melt chocolate with butter in a medium metal bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove bowl from heat and whisk in sugar. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Sift cocoa powder over chocolate and whisk until just combined.

Pour batter into pan. Bake until top has formed a thin crust and a wooden pick or skewer inserted in center of cake comes out with moist crumbs adhering, 35 to 40 minutes. Cool cake in pan on a rack for 10 minutes, then remove side of pan. Invert cake onto a plate and reinvert onto rack to cool completely.

Dust with cocoa powder or 10X confectioners sugar.

Can be made up to 3 days ahead and kept in an airtight container at room temperature.

Patriotic Shortcake
Buy a readymade angel food cake
Slice the cake into thirds so that you have three layers.
Cut up fresh strawberries and mix with fresh blueberries... add enough sugar to sweeten them.
Place bottom layer of cake on a cake plate.
Top with fresh strawberries and blueberries.
Place second layer of cake and top with remainder of berries
Top with final layer of cake.
Coat the entire cake with whipped topping that has been thawed. Decorate the outside with a few strawberries and blueberries.
It is a delightful summer treat and patriotic for those who have a birthday near the 4th of July.

BETTER THAN SEX CAKE

Maraschino cherries
Pineapple rings

Prepare cake according to package directions. Cool completely. Punch holes in cake. Cook pineapple and sugar slowly until sugar is dissolved. Pour sugar and pineapple over warm cake. Top with pudding, then with Cool Whip. Garnish with coconut and pineapple rings. Place maraschino cherry in center of each ring of pineapple. Keep refrigerated. Gets better with age, just like sex.

Banana cake with peanut butter and honey icing, with diced peanuts around the sides.
White cake with lime juice in it instead of water, with lemon frosting and mandarin oranges on the top.
Strawberry cake with chocolate fudge between the layers, chocolate ganache, and strawberries on the top.
Chocolate cake made with chocolate pudding folded into the batter, marshmallow creme between layers, vanilla frosting
A carrot cake with creme cheese frosting
A cheesecake with chocolate frosting (nobody will think it's a cheesecake ;) )
Chocolate cake with sour cream in it, gives it a nice tart kick, with vanilla honey frosting
A yellow cake with "fruit cocktail preserves" bewtween layers and vanilla frosting--make the fruit cocktail preserves by heating fruit cocktail with gelatin and mushing it up slightly.
