Try Hotel 41 Times Square. It's right in the middle of the theater district and a top boutique hotel (it's actually next door to one theater). Conte Nast featured them as a "find" for midtown NYC. The rate is $189 right now for a weekend rate, that goes down if you can stay during the weekdays.

The Sheraton or the Marriot, each a little less than $200 a night. The theater district is a highly desirable area to stay, so the price is higher there than it is in other parts of the city. If you want to stay in Manhattan, look into places to stay in Chelsea or Gramercy Park. If that's too expensive, try Astoria, Queens of Hoboken, New Jersey. Most if not all charge by the room not by the amount of people.

I recently stayed at the Washington Jefferson on 51st between 8th & 9th, which is very convenient to many theatres.

They offer rooms with one twin sized bed from $115 - $150 a night, depending on the day of the week, or a double bed for about $15 - $20 more.

It's a tiny room, I won't kid about that, but since you never really stay in your room in NYC, I found the super-clean room with a comfy bed with crisp sheets and down comfortor along with the helpful, friendly staff perfect for my stay.

Have fun!
