To be fair, I do not have an ankle tattoo to compare with. I have a tattoo on my left wrist....approx dimensions 2.5 inches long by 1 inch tall. Let's face it, you go in knowing there will be pain. It's a matter of what you can tolerate. This is my first tattoo....meaning I would get another one. I would not consider myself someone with a high tolerence for pain either. I have to say it was not as bad as I has expected. The tattoo artist I used had several years experience, perhaps that was a contributing factor. It was all done in less than half hour. I think the longer it takes, the more time for the pain message to reach your brain and say 'hey, this hurts!'. As time goes on, your tolerence for the pain may diminish. I doubt your design would take any longer than mine did....you will be fine. If you could handle your ankle chances are you can handle your wrist. If you are really losing sleep over it, ask the tattoo artist for tips to reduce pain. They are the professionals. Perhaps some Advil or Tylenol half hour before your appointment. I chose not to: I think that pain is all part of the experience. Embrace it. Go! Get your freakin tattoo already! You'll love it on your wrist! I do. Post a pic....love to see when all is said and done.

oooh man. If you thought the wrist was bad.. the ankle is ten times worse. I have 9 tattoos (gone under the needle a total of 13 times) and the ankle was the absolute worse. I kept twitching uncontrollably. lol Everyone is different though because in all honesty I didn't even think the wrist was bad at all! Go for it! it will be worth it

YES!!! Your wrist is LOADED with nerve endings, I couldn't imagine getting a wrist tattoo, I have three tattoos on both of my ankles, those don't hurt so bad. Definately don't go for the wrist if this will be your first tat, try the ankle first and see how you do with the pain, then you can go for one on the wrist if you think you can handle it!!
Best of Luck.

Although I have no tattoos yet, it most likely does hurt more to get a wrist tattoo than an ankle tattoo. There is thinner skin on the wrist than on the ankle.

I think the wrist is perfect for a dragonfly.
Some people say the ankle hurts like hell,
and others say it is the wrist. For me it is
the ribs. It's just different for different people.
Get it where you can enjoy it the most.

I have both and in my opinion, the wrist hurt SO much worse than the ankle. I've been told its because of all the nerve endings in the wrist. :-)

my wrist hurt the worst. i have 13 tatts, but i think it depends on the artist. my artist is great, and he had the needle prety deep and it felt like it cut thru the bone, but its not quite that bad. i kinda liked it actually.

they hurt your if they hurt you. i dont' find any pain in getting tatts pretty much anywhere. but alot of that depends on your artist too. some guys are just brutal, some are little more gentle.
