This is a common question from the creationists and it makes no sense at all. Modern day apes descended from their early ancestors traced back to a hominid species dating over 2.7 to 4 m.y.a.
Modern man belongs to the genus Homo, which is a subgroup in the family of hominids. What evolved into Homo was likely the genus Australopithecus (once called "man-ape"), which includes the famed 3.2 million-year-old "Lucy" fossil found three decades ago.
The whole human family tree, being able to connect the branches is the life work of anthropoligists and other scientists. The great apes are man's closest cousins, they developed off the main family of hominids over 4 m.y.a.
To say that modern man descended from present day monkeys and apes is as ludicrous as saying "horses descended from zebras, so why are the zebras still around...?"

If you've studied biology, which by the likes of your question, you haven't, there is something in evolution called "divergence." This is where there is a change in a species that causes it to change and a new species to be created, whether it be through punctuated equilibrium, or gradualism, at one point, the species is totally different. What defines a species is the capability to breed with each other, and the point where they can no longer do that is when the species have basically changed. The reason why monkeys still exist is because they have not become extinct. A common misconception is that when a species evolves, the predecessor becomes obsolete, which can be true in some cases, but in your case, the predecessor has not. It's just that one species has diverged into two.
Also, the question is not if we evolved from monkeys, but if we evolved from APES.
I'm not a big believe of this theory, and it is not detailed when you go into biology, but it is a theory, and is plausible.

Some monkey-brained evil-lootionists came up with the idea.
That has to be an indictment against us humans if such drivel were true.
Most of the funds for archaeological research comes from occultists who have a specific agenda. According to their secret doctrines, the British Royalty have blue blood and are direct descendants from angels who mated with men. The other inferior mortals--they evolved from monkeys. Unfortunately, some of us know that in 1603 England passed a law to purge the mongrel seed of the monarchy. Many of Prince Charles's relatives had married into the French royal bloodlines. The Louis' were notorious for marrying black women. One of Charles great uncles carried those genes. They even nicknamed him "the black prince." They never allowed him to marry.
Anyway, they have since purged the infidels and made them dukes and duchesses. You see why they had tried to prevent Charles from marrying Camilla?

The evolution theory is based on how the need to adapt to new situations forced some species to change themselves. Therefore, it is a matter of whether a species needed specific qualities to survive in a habitat or not. Which is why all monkeys look different (including us).

Evolution doesn't posit that men evolved from monkeys. It posits that man and monkey evolved from a common ancestor. Big difference. If you're going to disagree with a position you need to have a basic understanding of what that position is.

We and they both evolved from species that were common ancestors. Today's monkey didn't exist 10 million years ago either.
On the other hand, we do have lots of throwbacks to those more primeval times.

Sigh. *drink*
Read a biology book some time.
Different species can evolve from a COMMON ancestor.
There aren't any australopithecus running around any more, since we both descended from them (us and monkeys).
It's not an irritating question, just an illogical one.

From the question you already prove your ignorance of the subject. Instead of being intellectually lazy or dishonest ( I really don't know which one you are). Go and actual do some research on the subject. Maybe then you can have a legitimate argument.

It is false to claim that we have to wait another million years to see if it is true. The evidence of millions of years of evolution is easily deduced through comparative genetics. The validity of evolutionary theory has been experimentally demonstrated.
