Please leave the baby alone. If the mother is coming and going, likely it knows where it's baby is, and is waiting for you to leave so that it doesn't draw attention to the baby.

If you bother the birds at this point you risk killing the baby. Just stay out of sight so that mom can feed her baby it will do just fine.

It's great that you want to do the best for this beautiful animal, but sometimes the very best you can do is nothing.

Best of luck.

Sounds like this is a fledgling who has left the nest on it's own and it's mother is caring for it. This is typical behavior..they usually stay in one area and the adult will come and feed. If you heard the chirping..the mother can hear it as well. You can watch from somewhere where you can not be seen to check if the mother is coming to feed. She will not come if she sees you as you would be considered a predator. They can sometimes take their time between visits, have seen hummingbirds stay away from chicks in a nest for up to an hour. You have to watch consistently as the visit may be quick. If you really do not see anyone attending to this bird after a few hours and it does not fly away..you can contact a local wildlife rehabilitation in your area to see if they will take the bird in. Hummingbirds are extremely hard to raise...leave that to the experts.

NO! NO! NO! Do not feed the baby honey and water or that strong of a mixture! If you must feed it anything, mix surgar water, 4 tsp water and 1 tsp sugar. Call a wildlife rescue organization to come and take the baby because I seriously doubt you have the time to devote to a baby that needs constant attention. In truth, the adult was probably feeding the baby which was why she kept coming and going.

just put a little of bird food near it and at least put water in a bottle cap then just leave it alone and if its still there then do the same again

The bird is probably fledging. Leave it alone, do not touch or bother it. It'll leave on its own.

Mix honey and wrm water, half and half, see if it will take it. Keep it warm. Feed it once an hour at least. Look around for a tiny nest and put it back if you can.
