Kevin good question. Yes we would show the same hostility. Because if our Pres. Bush set up an amnesty bill on the canadians illegally in this country we would act the same way. If we had to pay for all their stuff, just like we do the Mexicans, we would be pretty ticked off wouldn't we? And we'd also get tired of all the crap with "For english press one, or for French Press 2." Well right now it's the same for the U.S. and mexicans illegals. I refuse to press one anymore for 2 reasons. 1st off, I feel I dont need to press one for my own language, 2nd, everytime I press one for english I get Mujibar on the other side and I can't understand a freakin thing coming out of his mouth.

Not to mention because we are at war with canada personaly as citizens. We are in an Insult War, we exchange insults and see which country is better. I personally think that the U.S.A. is better, because of many reasons.

You mean large numbers, right (at first I pictured, like 7' tall canadians lumbering over the border).

Canadians are culturally similar to Americans - at least the anglophone ones are - and could thus 'blend in' with American society more easily. That would make the problem less obvious on the street level. The impact on social services, though, would be similar on some levels - though, again, assuming they're not Quebecois, the impact on schools wouldn't be as noticeable.

So, without the language problem, and with minimal cultural issues, I think that it would take a lot more illegal Canadians than Mexicans to provoke a strong reaction from people in border states, just because they'd be 'invisible.' The drain on some social services, the competition for jobs, and issues like identity theft, though, would eventually come to a head.

Now, if you're talking millions of Quebecois insisting on speaking french, you'd probably be looking at a reaction commensurate to that provoked by spanish-speaking illegals.

Hello,

The millions scenario would be nonsense. Canada has a good economy and a socialized health care system along with much lower crime rates. The main gripe there is higher taxes in some cases but there are not that many kicking the doors or border gates off their hinges to get into the states.

Your own government estimates there are about 144,000 Canadians illegally working in the US. That's a far cry from millions.

One answerer was right that they just blend in. Even overseas Canadians are always assumed to be Americans first. The only exception to the rule I once heard from a Frenchman. Oh, you must be Canadian he said. Congratulations I answered. How did you guess? Well you talk American but dress English he said.

I would. My Mom's from Canada. She waited her time until she could legally immigrate. I don't care where the illegal immigrant comes from. It's never been about race or skin color for me. It's always been about respect for the laws and traditions of the country.
What makes some people make a race issue out of everything?

Hell yes.

Illegal immigration depresses wages.

Illegal immigration prevents the "host" state from screening immigrants for infectious disease.

Illegal immigration en masse creates a generalized contempt for the rule of law.

Illegal immigration is ALWAYS accompanied by real crime, such as ID theft/fraud and tax evasion.

Yes, especially if they didn't speak English. It is the impacts on our schools and services, and the sheer volume of people chasing jobs and driving down wages that is the issue. Not speaking English does make the impact, particularly on schools, worse, however.

yes i would feel the same way. illegal is illegal no matter what color their skin is. not wanting illegals in has nothing to do with race. when Americans was against this bill we knew there was illegal Irish and Polish and other white illegals here. we have our laws and we want them enforced and obeyed.

You start with a false premise, you end up with invalid results.
It was never about, Mexicans, it was about illegals. Mexicans
only came to the forefront, because they decided to try and intimidate Americans into giving them Amnesty. They should try that with their own Government.
