Because it requires more thought than simply god did it.

Because they've believed their whole lives in a fraud, and if they admit that, then all their beliefs are worthless and they will have to start all over.
Has anyone seen any of the "exhibits" at the new Creationism Museum? That the Grand Canyon was created in 40 days during the Great Flood? That humans and dinousaurs peacefully co-existed together? Puhleeeze people.
What about Carbon-14 dating? If a radioactive substance decays and becomes inert at a highly predictable rate, and this substance occurs naturally in all living things (and things that were once alive), then we would be able to measure the amount of radioactive material and compare it to the amount of now inert material and determine the age of the sample! Oh wait, we can! Sweet!
So what does it mean to creatonist arguments that the Earth is under 7000 years old when we find preserved animal remains that show a date of 20,000 years? Or the utter impossibility of all natural landforms being created by a flood 4000 years ago? How could the whole Earth be covered in water, and what happened to the water?
The basic fact is that science and religion do not, never have, and never will mesh. Darwin was a devout Christian, so was Einstein. They seperated the strict literal teachings of the Church because they believed in empirical proofs, not faith. Those are two different things. Scientists can be religious, but they have to follow the scientific method when it comes to their research, no journal will print a study that says:
"Support for conclusions reached: It is written in the bible."
Edit: Evolution doesn't say that the only purpose in life is survival. It says the only purpose in life is reproduction ie: passing on ones genes. That's why for example, when a male lion takes over a pride, he kills all the other cubs in the pride sired by other males. Why should his pride expend energy to raise cubs with another's genes? Its harsh, but that's the way things go, sorry. Adaptions increase fitness which increases the likelyhood that the individual will survive long enough to breed, thereby ensuring that their advantage will be passed on, and those weaker indviduals will fall by the wayside (die) before reproducing, thereby strengthening the gene pool.

I'm not scared, but evolution is just bad science.
evolution requires abiogenesis, which is completely against normal scientific thought. evolution from one original single-celled organism to all of the life that exists today is impossible to prove, and is unobservable, therefore is also unscientific.
natural selection, on the other hand, is observable today and has been proven many times. people often conflate natural selection with evolution, but they are in fact completely seperate concepts, evolution being more a theory of history than of science.

The Theory of Evolution
The Theory of Gravitation
Many people have no idea what a scientific theory is and ridicule Evolution because they cannot understand it.
If something as ridiculous as Intelligent Design can be taught as an alternative to Evolution, why shouldn't Intelligent Falling be taught as an alternative to Gravitation?

Not scared of accepting evolution, just don't believe it to be the truth.
*edit* do believe in some form of evolution. Mutations and the mutants thriving in a given environment compared to the mother species. I think its micro evolution?
However, notice how all the other kinds of evolution are still considered theories...NOT FACT!

Many are too stupid.
Anyone who asks "If evolution is true, why are there still apes" doesnt have the first idea what evolution is about and should study it as opposed to letting people know how ignorant they are.

Why are people so scared to accept the Bible is true?
Why are people so scared to die when they just get dumped in the ground and rot anyway?
Why are people so scared to jump off high buildings?
Why are people so scared to accept the Jesus is God?
Why are people so scared to admit they sin?
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
Not meaning to be rude but some of these question are just personal choice and they should be left that way.

Evolution is not some abstract notion that people hold to. No, it is an entire worldview that shapes one's life and decisions. It has implications for politics (see Hitler's basis for killing off Jews), ethics, and philosophy. While it might answer one of life's great questions, "How did I get here?" Its answer to the question "What is the purpose of life?" is nonexistent other than that it suggests there is no other purpose except survival.

Because they'd have to accept that the biblical creation story just simply isn't true. That could shatter their whole faith.
