Why in the hell are we making one of the biggest deals we have ever made about the number of troops killed in Iraq. It is in no real comparison to any other significant war we have participated in. I feel it is partly due to the media coverage, and alot to do with the overall strategy of the Islamic extremists, they no we have lost our stomach for blood.

I am in no way trying to say that each individual we lose is not a great loss. I am just trying to point out that if we could deal with the fact that lives are going to be lost in war, then we might have a larger chance of success. I also still believe this war can be won, it will take hard work, determination, political chang, and sadly though necesarily more lives will be lost. For this is the cost of Freedom.

Thank you it is about time someone smart had something to say on this site! I agree with you I think people mainly the media just want something to complain about and if we were to back out of the war they would just complain about that! I am personally proud of what are country is doing and do want our troops to come home I want it to be when the war is won and we honor those with our victory in justice and freedom! They risked their lives for it and some have died for it so lets honor them now by fighhting twice as hard for them and their memory!!!!!!!!!! God bless every American troop out there and the others fighting for the same cause!!!!!!!!!!

The reason the deaths are such a big thing is because there is no big story to make of this war. Bush tries to make it part of the war on terror, but how invading Iraq hurt Al Qaeda is anyone's guess, it seems pretty obvious so far it has only made Al Qaeda stronger. Also it's not a really good enemy to face in a heroic confrontation, not like Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany. The thing is, people tend to accept soldiers dying if they think there is any point to it, but if people already think a war is pointless, the soldiers dying become a real focus of attention. Of course the numbers are small compared to WWII and Vietnam, but the story is much, much smaller also.

The Democrats are in charge of the House, and Senate right now.
It is not We the People, but they the Politicians in Washington that are trying to instill fear, so they can do things to get re elected.
Any amount of are men and woman that die in combat is to many. But you are right , 3500+ is not the same as over 50,000+ in say Nam.
Politicians do not win wars. They just tie the hands of the people that can.
It is not a war with the people of Iraq. It is a war against the extremist that want to kill all of us. This should be called a world faith war, because extremist are all over the world trying to kill all of us and our allies.
The only way to win, is to take away there will to fight. The only way that I see that happening, is to kill all the extremist and the people that are hiding them.
I believe the only people that have lost there stomach for blood, as you say, are the cowards that have been voted into office.

Casualties are light compared to past conflicts, but each individual soldier lost or wounded is a very real sacrifice that shouldn't be deminished. Dismissing thier deaths as 'no big deal' diminishes that sacrifice. So, too, does denigrating the cause thier fighting for.

And, if you really want to diminish the sacrifice of those who've given thier lives - and had thier lives irrevocably changed - then /lose the war/.

Except for Vietnam all of our other wars have had a purpose. First to gain our freedom and then to maintain it. We should never have invaded a sovereign nation under any premise let alone a false premise as was done. Bush hasdestroyed Iraq. We have put them into a civil war. According to our GAO $15 million per DAY in oil is missing from Iraq. We have killed 3/4 million Iraqi men, women and children in an illegal and immoral war that should never have happened. We need to leave now and stop our senseless destruction.

if you ask me it is the media... they focus on the bad things not the good things we are doing there.. they dont care about the schools we are helping to build for the children or the medical help we give to the country all they care about is the negetive to get ratings.... its a shame it really is, we are over there shedding blood to make a difference, doing what most of us love to do, gaining a tremendous amount of pride, and they could care less about it.... kinda makes me sick to think about... recently they have been pushing it alot harder saying more deaths more this more that..... which i guess you can make any stat look the way you want it to look... we have been there for years now, and amount injured is still far less than any other war excluding desert storm which lasted 10 days lol... and to make it worse the media controls the public they report on the negetive, which in turn makes the public want us out, which in turn makes congress battle, which in turn hurts the men and women serving our country by moral and lack of funds! ok i went on enough lol im done now lol

edited::: also i've been there , im in the military ... i signed the dotted line knowing i could be called at anytime, my family and friends all know the risk, but for some of us, its worth it. i think anyone who has a neg opinoin on any of this, should go there, go see how life is there, go see how much better we have it, go see what is really going on, then tell me what you think we should do... sit here and do nothing or continue to do what we do best... we should be only lucky enough now to have the right to whine about the war... who gives us that right.... and if we left there then the terrorist win and they will be here next... who honestly wants that?

You know what, let me light into you a little bit. My husband is over there right now, at this very moment risking his life. Seriously at this moment, and was there for a year in 2003.

Every single soldier killed is brother, sister, father, husband, mother etc.... so their are families back here suffering. So we should be making a big deal out of it. In my opinion, were not making it a big enough deal.

I dont know exactly what your tone is here, what your trying to get at but I am deeply disturbed at your lack of insensitivity of lives lost in the name of freedom.

Ok so it doesnt compare to past wars. SO WHAT! Its still lives lost because they signed the dotted line. Would you be willing to sign that line?

We are too soft now. We as Americans have completely lost our competitve edge, we've lost our winning spirit. And now we just feel like giving up on everything, WHAT HAPPENED!

Yes the media coverage is biased, we aren't getting the FULL story from anyone. And no one ever talks about the losses of the Terrorist which are pretty high might I say.

What is the price of freedom?
To start with it seems its blood and more blood with a slow whittling away of our rights as a long term result. The big question it seems to me is who has the right to tell other people what to do. We seem to be opening a rather large can of worms. Lets not supply more bodies for them to feed on.

Well that's what happens when the president is running a unpopular war.Deep down everyone wants out reguardless of political standings. Besides he started the war Illegally anyways, he did not get a congressional declaration of war.
