I doubt you'll get a definite answer. But what is more or less concrete is that, after his supposed meeting with the dark one at the cross roads, he changed music forever. He gained notoriety and cash, influenced later forms of music, which in turn gave birth to Rock music-and we all know that rock is the music of the devil..... ;). So, my guess is YES, at least metaphorically.

Robert Johnson was good but Muddy Waters was the best.

I can't believe someone just compared Bon Jovi to Robert Johnson.

Well, he wrote two legendary songs claiming exactly that: "Crossroads" and "Hellhound On My Trail." Both covered, with due reverence, decades later by people like Eric Clapton and bands like the Allman Brothers.

Did it happen, did he *believe* it had happened (a different matter entirely) or did he simply play to the superstitions of the poor working blacks who made up his juke joint audiences . . . and the keen appetite for a "legend" of the blues aficionados who got his work down on wax?

We'll never really know for sure. *G*

Well, if he did, it didn't do him much good, since he died so young. I don't think he did, though, I think he was just THAT talented. Some of his songs talking about his relationship with the devil and his decision at the cross-roads are pretty creepy though. }:-}>
