Do any of you find this offensive? I was reading a book and it quoted the bible, saying this:

Revelation 21:8 "The corrupt, and murderers, and the immoral, and those who practice witchcraft, and idol worshipers, and all liars - Their doom is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur."

I looked this up in a bible my mom has (she's Christian, I'm wiccan), and it said the same thing. This, my friends, I find very offensive! I thought Christians were a welcoming religion! I'm sure the majority of us wiccans/pagans/witches would accept the Christians into our home!

Does anyone else find this bible passage offensive?

If your only just learning that the Bible isn't nice about Pagans and Wiccans you aren't going to like Leviticus. Or what some of the Christian fundies on this site say about us either.

Seriously don't get upset by it.If they have a problem with us that's not our fault.

I find it very offensive! I don't understand how, or why, this passage would be in a bible. I've checked on another site, and it says the same thing, or close to the same thing. -sighs- I am really tiring of these things. I supposed that this does not reflect on all current-day Christians, but I still don't like this much.

I find that passage ... disturbing.

I have to say it.... (this is not a 'knock' against Christians or anyone else, just an observation from my own experience) ...

Jesus as a person seemed to be a pretty great guy (someone I'd like to hang out with) - peaceful, friendly, loving, non-judgmental, non materialistic, wise, healing. People seemed to flock to him because they could feel the love energy and warmth within him and wanted to know it and be a part of it. Others chastised him and he did not take it personally for the most part, he understood they were troubled some how and wanted to help them. Betrayal seemed to sadden and disappoint him (understandably so). Then Christianity started and things got twisted.

Over time people who wanted to be 'Christ like' and worship Christ and God were becoming greedy, hating folks who were punishing and killing each other because their beliefs differed - how about 'thou shall not kill'?. That's not a very good example of someone who wants to be 'Christ/God like', is it? I'm going to kill you because you believe in 'God' but in a different way ???

In current times, I can't help but notice the discrimination and judgement that takes place between different religions and people in general, it's really sad. People are judging others for being human (what they worship, who they worship, how they worship, who they love, how they love. when the love, what color there skin is, where they live, what they wear ...). What could be a more offensive crime against humanity and those created in the image of 'God' himself.

It's sad and it's evil. I am not Pro-Evil.

Not terribly.

For the most part, those lines aren't directly focused on us - since, let's face it, most modern Pagan religions weren't around when that was written.

That said, Christianity (as a religion) doesn't approve of Paganism. ::shrugs:: It's not unexpected, but it doesn't particularly worry me. They're a different religion, so whether or not they approve of my religion isn't a particularly important thing. It can cause some issues when dealing with certain people, sure - but only if the people involved let it matter.

Yes! I'm a Hindu. I worship a deity of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and the Sacred Cobra (if I ever make it to India, I want to attend the "Nag Panchami", where live cobras are worshiped). I've had Christians call me a "Idol worshiper". I once heard Pat Robertson on the 700 Club say Jews and Catholics were like Devil worshipers. I hate when people call non-christians liars, and insult them.

no, but i don't like the implications... i have a christian background. earlier this year i decided to study witchcraft do to the things i saw in the church. i waited many years but no fruit on that tree. anything a christian says about me that is damning goes in one ear and out the other. i know when the rule that they measure others with comes back on them they will never be able to stand. i have a fondness for love and peace that they claimed was the holy spirit. i still have that but without christianity, my conclusion has been drawn... i think the hell fire thing is a tactic. anytime someone plays on your feelings and makes you feel guilty because you don't see it their way watch out. they are psychic vamps...

merry meet,
yes that bothered me in all kinds of ways.
I'm just new into Wicca and looking at this is making me sick, but Wicca or not this goes to all ppl that lives breaths and from all walks of life, so if you lie (and we all have ) we will go to hell for ever one lie, think about it, there's some big talking preachers going to hell faster then me,lolololololol wow and i thought tey said they was christian, ooops, if the bible said and all liars, then guess who's coming to dinner tonight, and the bigger thing is, did their bible say they had to get forgiveness for their liars and all of them, did the bible tell them they must be free from sin, did they be born of their mother's sin, holy indeed, i think not,
but this is really a sin to all men and women, but not to the virgin old women and men that never had done anything to others b/c they don't go out and they have nothing to Lia about.
bless be

Seeing as how the bible is full of bull sh** lies, No it doesn’t. The bible was written to take people away from being pagan and it wasn't created by Christ why don't you look that up before you follow any of those stories to seriously.

It is but you know what? I don't believe in the bible because it was written by men who had an agenda. The things they wrote in their were their beliefs.

So I don't pay any attention to the negative stuff in the bible.

You're just now finding out the Bible doesn't like witches? Don't read Leviticus.
