Quote " this weapon that was designed to protect the Russian people from their enemies but was quickly turned against them. Its inventor says he wishes he had invented a lawnmower instead. There are now thought to be more than 70 million AK47s in the world. AK47: The Story of the People’s Gun " UNQUOTE http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/starttheweek.shtml

Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess, but there's no denying the versitility of this weapon.. designed so boys could use, bury in sand or ground and it's still ready to use.. but after Beslam, Col K admitted he wished he'd never invented it.

Do you?

Admittedly the AK47 is so readily available, most "bad guys" use them as their primary weapon, but then thats not the fault of its designer.

Did the Wright brothers wish they'd never invented the aeroplane after fighters and bombers were built in WW1, and would they, today, disown their invention due to the huge number of warplanes?

Doubtful.
In Russia, the Ak47 served its purpose, and the fact it is widely used is the sign of a great design. If it were any other product, it would be a commercial money tree. Yes, Kalashnikov may have the circulation of more '47s than the UK population on his conscience, but as with any weapon, they've surely been used for good at many times.

Without the '47, Russia may not have been defended at all. But after all, this is all "what if..."

On an interesting note, I'm sure a good number of people have been killed by lawnmowers over the years, and I'd certainly prefer a 7.62mm round through the head in an instant than the grinding of blades slowly chewing away...

Yes Mr Kalashnikov is famous for his quote. But his weapon and series of related weapons are excellent weapons.

Beslan very sad- but it indicate how terrible the muslim terrorist is. They use the teacher and the student as protection from the police bullets. Also the same in Moscow theatre for musical stage production.
The Muslim terrorist is the very bad peoples and all who support must also be killed.
Indonesian who support Chechen rebel will be made disappeared by our nation Intel.

stick with the AK47 as generally its idiots running about with guns that end up killing each other. I mean Lawnmowers can be barbaric, what has the poor grass done to deserve getting its head cut off?

Gun or lawnmower, a tool is a tool - the morality must be supplied by the person using it.

if Kalashnikov hadnt invented this versatile weapon somebody else (probably a Yankee) would have invented something similar that would have been used to kill. What he invented did its job and kept motherland safe

They are the same.
The Lawnmower gets rid of excess grass. AK's get rid of excess people.

No, I like mine, great gun! Kind of like the M-14 where you can throw it in the mud and have it still work!
