Yes, being a police officer is a great job choice! Sure... sometimes people get mad at you, but in the end, most people look up to you! Your usually very safe (bullet-proof vests) and the only time a police officer dies is if they're not well trained!

I will try to make this short, but it may be hard. All I ever wanted to do was be a cop.I spent a couple of stints working in a couple of jails, then got hired on at a small, but very good police dept. I did it all, patrol, instructor, trainer, defensive tactics, supervisor, you name it. Worked in a pretty safe, relative of course, little town. But it wore me down, got tired of the lying, got tired of the BS in court, the paperwork, the hours, got tired of being called racist, sexist, agist, elitist, whatever. Every little thing people expected the police to handle. Parents would call, my child won't listen, the neighbor kid teases him. My boyfriend stole my keys, oh but I don't want him arrested. And the low lifes, you would go to houses that were filthy, people arguing and cussing in front of thier kids. I pulled up to a house one night and could hear the mother calling the 14 year old daughter an effin b i t c h, screaming it. I wanted to take her to jail. It seemed like no one ever told the truth anymore, or it was half truth. I swear I thought if one more person told me, " I know my rights" I felt like bashing thier head in, I know way more about what someones rights are than they ever will. Nothing was ever thier fault. It got so bad I would hide out in the middle of parking lots and hope there were no calls. Everything was an arguement, a hassle, I just got so sick of it. Finally, after 10 years I found dispatching. I could send some other poor cop to deal with this crap, while I am kicking it in the Air Conditioning. Not worrying about some drunk spitting in my face.

i was not sure if i wanted to go into law enforcement. my family had already had 4 generations retire in law enforcement. my dad called one day when i was 27 and said they were hiring.i went and applied.the hiring process was a real pain and kept you stressed.most applicants will wait up to a year for all the background info to come in.i was very lucky and mine came in after 3 months.i finally got to have my oral board and went to work that night.i retired after 25 years. that makes my family have 5 generations that retired from law enforcement. the main thing i found out is that was nothing like it appeared from the outside

I knew a policeman once that joined up for the night shift because he loved donuts and it was quiet on the night shift. He would sleep, wake up near morning, go have donuts and coffee, then go home and do stuff around the house all day.
My kind of job.
