maybe the problem is with the 12 year old, not the 4 year old.
Boys like to punch. Males are aggressive in all species. Teach your 12 year old to stand up to him and not wimp out. Once the 4 year old realizes that picking on someone bigger than him can cause pain...he will learn to stop.

Let the 12 year old do the same to him. The 4 year old will see that he gets hurt as well when he hits his brother. He will stop.

The problem is not allowing the 12 year old to hit him back. That's really stupid. That gives the 4 year old a chance to hit him just talk to your 12 old and tell him not to hit him very hard.

Maybe your 4 year old needs more 'one on one' time with his 12 year old brother. Sometimes younger kids feel that negative attention is better than no attention at all. Maybe he just wants attention from his brother, and hitting him is the only way he knows to go about doing it.

quit babying him! he is being a brat his brother should hit him back hard enough to let him know it hurts but not too hard.you say you spank him sometimes that's the problem spank him every time and tell him why you are spanking him so he knows he is being punished for being bad and i mean it no TV,no playing no treats no nothing till he behaves himself.you cannot allow him to treat his brother or anyone else like this! he needs to know not to do it and being 4 is no excuse, beat his a ss!good luck.

I have the same situation! i make my 12 year old tell his lil brother that he does not like it and please stop! The 4 year old then has to apologize and sit in time out! It has worked! He does not hit as often as he used too! its worth a try!Good luck!

Children tend to do that to get attention. My 3 year old is always hitting my 12 year old but I have learned that the best way to stop it, is to get my 3 year old involved in things like coloring, helping me clean, things of that nature to show her that she doesn't need to beat up her older sister to get attention.

theres your reason . your 4 year old is figuring out that you are taking his side even when he does something wrong. you have to let your older son throw (very gently) back. and ignore him when he cries.

that must be hard i'm sure but you cant let it go on forever. your older son will just avoid his kid brother and you dont want that
