I'm not a member of the church but know people and have family that are. Just wondering why you push preposterous notions on R&S like they are actual doctrine.

TAN MAN: I did some research, here's something I found on the massacre you speak of: http://www.lds.org/portal/site/LDSOrg/menuitem.b12f9d18fae655bb69095bd3e44916a0/?vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=1c234dc029133110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&locale=0

I didn't know black people could be Mormon. Wow. Is this why the Cherokee kicked us out of their club?

By the way, does the NAACP know about this?

It reminds me of the story of the woman who was being held in one of the towers of the Salt Lake Temple. She was told she would only be released if she converted to Mormonism and agreed to be the fifth wife of some Elder or other. Luckily she forced open a window, jumped out it, landed in the Great Salt Lake and swam to her freedom.

This story (or variants of it) have been around since the 1800s and makes as much sense today as it did back then. Let's leave all the doctrine aside and look at the physics. The highest spire is 210 feet tall. The Temple is approximately 10 miles from the Great Salt Lake - a jump that is impossible even with a hang glider.

We are not LDs haters, it is just that if they are going to claim that they are the only true church, then they need to back it up, and they don't, and can't. So I just raise the point with them and they ttranslate it how they like, twist it aropund to suit themselves. Good example is the Mormon that claims the LDS church is not racisyt. Of course they are, the punishment for marrying a black person used to be death. Brigham Young said that. Black people never used to be able to hold the priest hood. But no it doesnt suit them in the modern day and age so lets change it.

Hi its me, the evil TAN MAN:

Why do we mock what we think we understand?
You say you are not even a member, do you understand them?
Do you call speaking the truth mocking?

They say I am attacking them when all I do is state facts. The truth must hurt terribly for them to react the way they do.

I have posted , for example , numerous questions about the Mountain Meadows Massacre, which is a historical fact, and all they do is give wishy washy excuses to try to justify the unjustifiable. Now I am considered Evil. So be it.

It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960) The church even protected over 100 other killers involved in this massacre from Federal prosecution. Then they say "Thou Shalt Not Kill " doesn't apply to them . Only everyone else.

It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400 dead.

You searched for information about the Mountain Meadows Massacre at lds.org....of course they're going to white wash everything about that. I don't consider myself an LDS/Mormon "hater," but I'm still pretty pissed that I wasted 8 years of my life practically living at church, and that they got 10% of everything I earned the whole time, when I really needed that money. I know, I know, nobody "forced" me to pay my tithing, but it's amazing what someone will do when they are brainwashed.

Thank you for standing up for us!! We could all use people in our courts, so to speak!!

I'm LDS, and I don't understand it either. To the people who say that we are racist, they are wrong!! Everyone is welcome in our church. They aren't treated any different then any other member, or investigator.

There are many lies out there about us, and most have been given by people who have left the church, or were excommunicated. The guy that talked about all the crap with Joseph Smith, the reason you didn't learn that stuff was because it's false!!! I've also looked into those allegations, and that's all they are! None of them were ever substantiated, nor was he ever found guilty of those. That was found AFTER you left the church, so that stands to reason that you would believe something like that.

I always find it silly that people worry about my underwear!! I mean, come on, it's my underwear for heaven's sake! Do I ask what kind of underwear you wear, or if they are magical? Why would it matter to me what kind of underwear you wear? It's underwear!! Get over it!!

Even people who have left the church didn't understand everything about the church. It isn't possible to understand it all in a short time. Even years into it, you will still be learning. I learn something new all the time. Isn't that what religion is about? I think so. If we aren't learning, we stay stagnant, and that isn't good. The reason things are done the way they are is because we CAN'T understand everything all at once. It is built line upon line, precept upon precept, until you die, and even then, learning continues. Or at least that is what I believe.

Anyway, thanks again for sticking up for us, and I wish there were more poeople like you out there willing to do so!!

Amen to Miranda. All those that claim to know us or to understand us, yet spread vilifications and aspersions about us, do not know or understand what they think they know and understand. The Gospel is complex and cannot be understood in a partial lifetime. I know more than most from six generations of active membership. Yet, I am continually learning new ramifications. As for feeling the spirit, I receive revelations daily concerning my life. Just last night, one of the sisters in my ward asked for a blessing from our bishop. I was there at the time. The Bishop deferred to me to give the blessing. I did not know what I would say to bless this sister, yet when I began, the words came into my mind and I spoke what the spirit put there. When it was done, I had said some things I would never thought to have said. The Bishop simply said, "I have heard the truth spoken". The sister said that she had never heard anyone counsel her to do what I had said in the blessing. This is how the spirit works, He speaks to our hearts and to our minds when called upon in the right spirit, with faith and humility.
To all the detractors, I suggest that you go back to school.

I think it may have something to do with their false prophetts who will say something one day and then come back and say God changed his mind. God is the same as he was yesterday as he is today and will be tomorrow. Their belief system is so full of holes it is pathetic. and about their magic underware, I guess someone would have to have something to pick on. and whats up with the missionarries having to be in sight at all times of one another. I am so sorry but if I am on the toilet, the last thing I want is something oogling over me. The ONLY thing positive I have to say about mormonism is they have awesome family values, and treat their children with the utmost respect. But their belief system. No thank you.

What are you asking exactly? Those who claim the morg is not a real church because they heard about the "magic underwear", or those who know better and chose to inform the rest of the world of the complete falsehood the mormon church is based on?

What do you *think* you are trying to ask?

Just some more of the ignorance of LDS mockers.

>>I didn't know black people could be Mormon. Wow. Is this why the Cherokee kicked us out of their club?

By the way, does the NAACP know about this?<<

Blacks have always been in teh LDS church. Just because they were not given teh priesthood until 1978 does not mean they were excluded from eveything. And yes, the NAACP certainly does know about it. But, what difference does that make? Even if a church is totally and terribly racist, the Constitution of the US gives them that right. And I'm not just talking about racists who are white. Racists come in all races.

>>.how dare they even fathom that they can attain the perfection of God. that is what bugs me.<<

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (BTW, Jesus said this.)

>> i also went thru things that would scare the crap out of you and make anyone schizo or multiple personality, so I think I know what I am talking about. Don't you mock what you have never walked in.<<

I do not mock what ever you experienced, but your experiences don't mirror everyone's experiences. This tells me it's not THE CHURCH that you should be angry with, but the idiots who mis-interpreted what theh church teaches.

>>The only difference between us is that I have read that book and find it to be full of crazy. Not to mention the Journals of Discourse. People living on the Sun? No thanks.<<

You actually READ the entire Journals of Discourses?? Wow! Most Mormons have NEVER read it, and it's 13 VOLUMES!!

>>Id like to say i didnt know this was about Mormons, they are a cult and have no basis on true Faith in God. Anyone who rewrites God's Word is out of line, church or whatever.<<

CULT: n., church I don't like and don't believe, that I want you to fear and hate as much as I do.

We don't rewrite God's word. IF there is any rewriting going on, it's GOD who's doing it.

>>I grew up in the church and didn’t even know Joseph Smith was a money digger and would send husbands on missions and then secretly marry there wives and teenage daughters, I did not know that Joseph Smith had a gun and capped three mobsters. I did not know about how many times the Book of Mormon has been revised and how textual criticism proved the JST (Joseph Smith Translation) to be false, or about the View of the Hebrews There is much; much more the church has never taught me I only learned all this stuff later in life through my own research.<<

That's what happens when you learn from anti-Mormons instead of us. Joseph Smith was not a "money digger", nor did he steal other men's wives and daughters. As for the gun, he didn't start shooting until AFTER he saw his brother shot in the face. Pretty poor defense against 200+ armed mobsters. And if you didn't know about all the revisions in the Book of Mormon, then you've been hiding under a rock o something, because the church let's the whole world know if there is a new revision.

>>and whats up with the missionarries having to be in sight at all times of one another. I am so sorry but if I am on the toilet, the last thing I want is something oogling over me<<

Oh, for crying out loud! Since when do the missionaries have to even be watching each other when on the toilet??? That's just stupid! Haven't you ever heard of the buddy system? It's for their protection, and the protection of others, but it's not THAT extreme.

>>numerous questions about the Mountain Meadows Massacre, which is a historical fact, and all they do is give wishy washy excuses to try to justify the unjustifiable. Now I am considered Evil. So be it.<<

It was a sad moment in LDS history, no doubt about it. But, what people don't take into consideration is the mind set of the people back then, what they were living with, and their memories of the persecution they lived thru back east. It doesn't excuse what they did. But, it does make it more understandable. And there is really no evidence that THE CHURCH was involved.

>>We are not LDs haters, it is just that if they are going to claim that they are the only true church, then they need to back it up, and they don't, and can't.<<

All of christianity claims this, yet, they can't back it up or prove it either. NO religion can. So, what's the thing? Why pick on one group?

>>Of course they are, the punishment for marrying a black person used to be death. Brigham Young said that. Black people never used to be able to hold the priest hood. But no it doesnt suit them in the modern day and age so lets change it.<<

No, Brigam Young never said that TO MARRY a black person was punishable by death. Here is the exact quote:

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." (Journal of Discourses, Vol.10, p.109)

Now, consider: back then, inter-racial marriage was against the law. No one did it. It was pretty much unthinkable.

But, what DID happen? many white slave holders would slake their sexual appetites on their black slaves. Look at Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings.

So, what did Brigham Young say? If white MAN of the CHOSEN SEED; this is priesthood holders with in the church, since that was who he was addressing.

If they mix their blood with the seed of Cain: now, does this mean marriage? No, no one married outside their race. Besides, he didn't specify marriage. So, he must have been talking about how white men took advantage of black slaves/servants.

Now, what about "Penalty under the law of God is death on the spot"? Are we under the "Law of God"? No, we are under the laws of men. Therefore, those men didn't get killed, but were told that, if we were under the law of God, he WOULD be killed.

As far as blacks getting te priesthood, since it's GOD'S priesthood, ten GOD decides who does and does not get it.

A lot of Mormons don't even understand it. The church usually teaches a glossed over account of its self and doesn't teach its members about the bad stuff.

I grew up in the church and didn’t even know Joseph Smith was a money digger and would send husbands on missions and then secretly marry there wives and teenage daughters, I did not know that Joseph Smith had a gun and capped three mobsters. I did not know about how many times the Book of Mormon has been revised and how textual criticism proved the JST (Joseph Smith Translation) to be false, or about the View of the Hebrews There is much; much more the church has never taught me I only learned all this stuff later in life through my own research.

So A lot of Mormons *think* they understand it.
