Is it usual for a male to attack a female cat? My neighbours cat who was here first is making my cat 's life a misery. He hides and waits for her and attacks her at any opportunity. He has given her a couple of nasty bites in the past. He left her with a big bald spot one time due to pulling her fur out from the roots. If I see him I chase him away but wondered if anybody had any ideas. He is neurtered but seems to like bullying my cat.

Thanks for your answers. It is difficult as I live in the country and she loves to be outdoors. She is a fiesty cat who will stand up for herself but this tom is much bigger. Think I will start by chucking a bucket of water over him to see if that makes him get the message!

keep it inside.
live trap the neighbors and tell them to keep it home or they can pick it up at the pound.

As your neighbour's cat was there first, he obviously considers your garden as part of his territory. You could try shooting him with a water pistol. Its probably the most humane method of repelling unwanted cat visitors as they really don't enjoy the experience.

As the newcomer, your cat possibly feels a little intimidated at the moment. You might want to accompany your cat outside as this will help build up her confidence.

Good luck.

I agree with Diana's response. Cats shouldn't be outside! Keep them safe inside with a nice window to look out (that's like their television!)

is your cat fixed? because often times they can sense that and that could be making him react the way he is. You might want to try spraying him with a water bottle everytime he comes around your cat, let him know that youre the boss. and talk to your neighbors about his behavior, and what they think might be causing it. Good Luck! hope kitty feels better!

That's horrible!

I was going to suggest neutering him. Is your female cat spayed?

I used to have a problem similar to this. Everytime the cat came near my house, I would put my dog on a leash and chase it back to it's house. Eventually it stayed away!

This is just one of the MANY reasons that my cats are indoor only cats. It just too easy for a dog or cat to attack them, especially if they're young. Also, they can be hit by cars or hurt by mean neighbors. I totally sympathize with your problem, but I recommend that you let her stay inside with you where it is safe.

Confront the neighbors and if it doesn't stop, call animal control. Make sure he is neutered, and your cat is spayed.

I live by the two S's in situations like that: shotgun and shovel.

What's wrong with wanting to keep my animals safe? I own them, therefore it is my responsibility to feed, water, groom, AND protect.
