swimming would be best along with walking
Swimming is low impact, and burns a lot of calories and also targets more muscles than most other exercises

First of all you need to talk to your doctor before starting any exercise.
Walking is an easy way to get into exercising. Start by walking just ten minutes, or as much as you can, and work your way up to an hour.
Once you do start, you’ll notice that you are feeling better and you have more energy. Exercise doesn’t have to be in the gym, you can ride a bike with your grand kids, swim in the pool, play and walk with the dog, etc. Plus, I hate to be crude, but sex is great exercise when done right. Just find what you enjoy and will stick with.

That sounds like me, last year. My doctor told me to 'just take walks' as often as I can, and to 'sit down' if the pain got too bad, and then get up and 'walk some more' ... and it does WORK to get me into 'better shape' ... and I've had two heart attacks and have hypothyroidism! So JUST WALK ... if you can't walk from 'corner to corner' on the 'short side' of the block at first, go 'walk' anyway ... you'll soon be 'walking around the block' and even taking 'side trips' and yu'll feel much 'better' for it, both physically and mentally. IF NECESSARY, get a 'folding cane' that you can tuck into your purse so that you can use that for 'support' if you get 'really tired' ... but after awhile you should be so much 'better' that the 'cane' will be something you can 'put away for when you get really old.'

walking, just plain simple walking. Start at your own pace, get as far as you can, and increase distance and speed as you get stronger. I started out walking about a block, very slowly. Now I walk five miles a day at a brisk pace and I have lost 167 pounds in 15 months, of course I kept to 1200 cal diet too. But I feel tons better.

*Swimming (great cardio, and easy on joints & arthritis)
*Stretches, yoga (only the poses you can manage), breathing exercises (more effective than people think.)
*Resistance bands (do them sitting at first, then as you beigin to feel better, do them standing)
*Chair exercises in general; as you're sitting do arm circles, waist bends, reaches, etc. As you feel better, move to standing exercises.
*Simple walks, even if it's just around the block, or walking the dog.
*As you begin to feel better and more confident, go with a beginner Richard Simmons tape. (He's corny as can be, but his tapes are great.)
*Take sets of stairs rather then the elevator.
*Intentionally park farther from the store, the little bit of extra walking can help.
*Join a group at the gym styled to your needs. Some groups will cater to older people, people with health problems, people with disablities---try seeing what you can find at your local gyms.
*Sex. If you have a husband or partner, sex can be wonderful exercise, and a great stress reliever, too.
Hope I could help! Remember to ask your doctor before starting any exercise regimen, especially if you are very out of shape, or have heart or arthritis issues.
Good luck! :)

Exercise bike hands down. There's no impact on the joints like jogging. Plus you can do it in the comfort of your own home. If you can't afford a bike I recommend long walks. Good Luck!

Find a friend that will take walks with you every day. Even if it's only around the block. Try joining a gym.

Walking, jogging, swimming. If you're going to a gym any eliptical machine will do fine.
