christians are quick to point out that all the churches
basically believe the same fundamental things.
but why do a huge portion of all christians believe in catholicism and the rest are protestant or orthodox or whatever?
obviously god wants one church, undivided.
so the only explaination there is is that it is satan's fault for this segmented divide amongst followers.
If you are a protestant, don't you think it is kinda weird to think that catholics do that whole "confessional booth thing" because the devil has confused them?
Or if your catholic, don't you think that it is odd to say that some protestants fake holy spirit things like speaking in tongues because they are confused by satan?
Who wins when you make claims like these against people who follow god just as earnestly as you do?

There is no one group, there is no one individual who has all the truth.

'In essentials, unity: in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity.'

I can't say that over time I have wondered these things myself. As a Christian I don't like that there are so many denominations and more and more being made every day. However, I pray to God and ask for his guidance everyday. The one thing we all have in common is God, and I feel that as long as you ask him for the truth he will give it to you. I feel that I am in the right place in my life and that I am doing what I need to be doing. I think a lot of the denominations come from convictions. The Bible has a lot of areas that come down to conviction, so maybe one person was convicted differently in an area and so they started a church based on that. I don't know, that is why prayer and a relationship with God is so important. While some denominations may be wrong, Gods word isn't and his voice is clear if you want to hear it.

Even in the first century churches, there were already "deceivers" (2 John 7) and the spirit of the anti-christ was beginning to rear its ugly head (1 John 2:18). Satan has always been actively blinding the minds of people (2 Cor. 3:14; 4:4; 1 John 2:11). Jesus said that Satan was a murderer from the beginning and Paul says that his main focus has always been to lead the body of Christ astray. That is why we are told to "test the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1) and to "examine the Scriptures daily to see whether these things are so" (Acts 17:11).

Because the actual Christianity is not the one we all know today. It is the one preached by the original and true apostles of Jesus until Paul came, twisted everything his way and founded his very own way of Christianity. In addition, when the Roman Empire made Christianity the official religion of the state, on top of all the twistings of Paul, the Romans added all their pagans beliefs to the "Christianity they invented", that is the one we all see today. What the Romans didn't think on was that history sooner or later will start to uncover the false teachings and doctrines they added. The Catholic church is what is left of that Roman Christianity, the Protestant churches are the ones that are slowly opening their eyes to the truth. Christians still have a lot to uncover.

I agree Christians are Christians I am of no denomination I go solely on what the bible says not what others say. I do find it odd that catholics do confessional to a man instead they should ask God for forgiveness not their pastor but who am I to say. Its sad to see the denominations when we really just need to be concerned about serving God

I think this should shed some light on what religion - especially Christianity - has become. It really is every man for himself, even here...

Why? Well, just take a look at how the texts have changed and how the beliefs were decided by... mortals. Despite inevitable human error, people like to believe that their thoughts are true and, more importantly, inspired by divinity.

Just like in every other human endeavor, egos get in the way. Someone thinks his ideas are right and if you don't agree, he starts his own denomination. It's all about people wanting to tell each other what to do and how to think. You'll find it in other religions, too. There's always someone who thinks he/she knows best and won't cooperate with others to achieve an end.

I totally agree. I think the true meaning of Christianity has been distorted because of man's interpretation of the scriptures. That's where the other denominations come in.

I 100 percent agree with you if God wanted to have divided churches he would of said so in the bible!

I think it depends on whose interpretation you believe. These are all different interpretations of verses and chapters in the Bible. So, I don't really know. There is one God in three Parts, which Christians believe, but a lot beyond that, are small or large differences.

You obviously didn't put much thought into this. If you look at the history of different sects, especially orthodox and Protestants (Martin Luther), you'll find clear reasons why different groups of people decided to form different sects.

If the definition of "rock" music can get so diverse in just 50 years (where it now includes everything from Chuck Berry to Metallica), because different people have their own idea of what they want to do, then why is it any surprise that Christianity has broken into so many sects over the last 500+ years?
