LDS Hymn "Praise to the Man"
1. Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
[Chorus]
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
2. Praise to his mem’ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
Plead unto heav’n while the earth lauds his fame.
3. Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
4. Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know again.

In the last chorus, insert the name of the person who founded your denomination. Like Calvin or Martin Luther, or Martin Luther King ect.

Same as the hymn about the one were it mentions slightly about a heavenly mother, I think NOT.
I would wonder if my Pastor was a closet Mormon.

I know it's a theoretical question, but even as such, it likely wouldn't get past the music director. Yes, I suppose the priest might be able to somehow pull rank on the music director and get it sung, but that would be extremely unlikely. Our church sings the occasional song mentioning the saints, but this goes a step beyond. The congregation might actually sing along, at least until they realized what they were singing. But the diocese administration would have some serious questions later for whoever allowed it to get through. Then again, it's an LDS hymn, and they can sing whatever they like in their own church. I imagine there are some of my church's Catholic hymns they'd find just as objectionable.

Your summary "I think it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black." hits it right on the head. Both 'parties' use 'brainwashing' techniques, but it not much different than a sales motivational meeting. My experience in the lds church tell me it is repetition of a phrase, such as "I know the church is true" uttered by six year old, who most certainly does not 'know', plus the social pressure to 'bear your testimony'. You know who in your ward has not done so, just as you dread that certain someone who always takes 'center stage' at fast and testimony meetings. The term "Brainwashing" is crude and a misnomer at best. "Indoctrination" is exactly the methodology used by all religions. It's up to the individual to accept it along with the other baggage that goes with it.

You have a very good point, this is the type of worship I am talking about when I call the LDS a cult, to much importance on Joseph Smith and no importance to God or Jesus. Pure and utter blasphemy

That would cause an uproar in the church. The pastor would probably get fired.

I think the congregation would freak out. Especially at the "mingling with Gods" line.

Honestly, I just don't think it would happen. We spend our worship time singing praises to Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, and not about what men do, say, or did.

My pastor is a man of God so it would not happen.
