I heard that you have to be law enforcement to use the p229, is that true? Or do you just need a concealed hangdun license?

Should I use 9mm or .357 sig?

I just like the idea of using .357 sig with a sig sauer gun (hence the name..) But if 9mm is better I would use it.

The 226 is your best bet. 9mm is far cheaper and IMHO much easier to learn to shoot.

Whether you need any type of license really depends on where you live. In MOST states, you don't need a permit of any kind to buy a handgun, although there ARE exceptions. You will only need a concealed permit if you plan on carrying it concealed. If you are just taking it to the range or keeping it in the house for personal defense you don't need a permit IN MOST STATES.

If you live in a reasonable state, all you'll have to do is fill out the ATF form (it used to be called a "yellow form", but they're not yellow anymore) at the gun dealer, prove who you are, where you live and that you are over 21, pay them and be on your way with your firearm.

You don't necessarily have to use a Sig to shoot 357 Sig. I use it in my Glock 22 and Glock 23. You just change the barrel. You can use the same magazine for both .40 S&W and 357 Sig. The case OD is the same.

Uhh you need to stop listening to morons if they're telling you, that you must be "law enforcement" to buy a P229...

You need to be legally eligible in the state you live to purchase one, thats it. Same with any other firearm.

9mm ammuntion is cheaper and more plentiful for plinking and target shooting - the .357 Sig is more expensive.

.357sig is a "gee-whiz" caliber, good numbers, but it will never become universally popular and it will cost you a fortune to shoot as much as you need to get good practice.

The 229 is not only for law enforcement, that's not correct.

40S&W is the other caliber in a 229, and out of the three calibers, that's the one you want.

Get the 226 in 9mm if you want to be able to buy a lot of ammo and have fun shooting. By the way, never believe much of what "they" say.

Short and to the point. Get the 226 in 9mm and shoot Corbon 115gr jhp's in it for defense, and winchester 115gr fmj's for practice. MUCH cheaper than .357sig.
