I started my car last night and the CD player was working fine. As soon as I turned my headlights on, the stereo quit working. I turned the headlights off, stereo went back on. I assume I blew a fuse, but how do I know which one it is? Or, could it be something other than a fuse?

If the CD player was just installed, it was installed incorrectly. The ground wire was hooked up to an illumination wire, so when the lights come on the ground disappears and the unit shuts off. This is actually a surprisingly common error.

If the CD player isn't a new install, then you need to have your charging system checked. If you're having alternator problems, then turning on the head lights may be dropping the voltage too low to keep the CD player on.

Has nothing to do with a fuse. Your headlight system is overloading your power source, in this case the alternator. So sounds like you have a partial short in your headlight system.

Was your CD/Stereo just installed. If so that could be the cause of the problem.

really doesn't sound like a fuse. Sounds like a short in your headlight switch. Is it an older model that pulls out or is it on the steering column

If your cd player was installed by stereo shop....take it back and describe your complaint.....if u can expose the wires on back of your system, try moving connectors and be sure their secure and check for cut wires from rubbing on metal surfaces...

Sounds like a bad earth somewhere. If you're not confident with checking out electrical stuff yourself, find a garage or auto electrician you trust and get them to check it out.
