the firearm laws in Israel only allow privately owning firearms in case you either:

1. have discharged from the army ranking Captain or higher, or having served in the special forces, or on active duty ranking master Sargent and higher (including officers), or

2. have a job that requires a firearm (such as a guard), or one that is potentially dangerous (such as a taxi driver), or

3. live or work in an area which is potentially dangerous due to terrorism (such as the west bank), or

4. take part in recreational competitive shootings, in this case you are allowed to own a gun but not to carry it on your person for any other reason than shooting competition/practice, or

5. are a hunter and have a hunting license.

in any case, one is limited to owning a single handgun, except for hunters who are limited to two shotgun-type guns. firearm license must be renewed periodically, and that requires going to a shooting range and proving you can handle a gun correctly.

firing a gun is only allowed at a shooting range or to protect oneself or others in case of emergency (it's actual intended use). one is not allowed firing a gun for any other reasons, even if it's in the middle of nowhere or on own property.

owning an automatic firearm is not allowed for private people, but some "high value" installations are allowed to arm their guards with SMG's, usually mini/micro-Uzi's.

Yes. Israel does need have the right to bear arms. One can only obtain a firearm permit if he A) has served in the army and B) enters a dangerous area on a frequent basis (such as living or working in a dangerous area).

From what I've gathered about everyone having to serve in the IDF it is less restrictive.
