Jesus was a hippie, I've heard. Also a pacifist who regularly hung out with non-believers and other sinners, considered the spirit of the law more important than the letter of the law, and didn't mind a sip of good wine now and then.
Frankly, I think the liberal Christians are far more Christ-like (and isn't that supposed to be what Christianity is about?) than any fundie ever born.

I'm a liberal christian but I'm not even going to say I think you're going to hell and that I want to help you. If you have done anything wrong by being an atheist God has to forgive otherwise why would he have told me to. No ones going to hell that was what Jesus' sacrifice was all about. Also I don't think I have any authority to condemn people to hell.

No they weren't. traditionally, the Pharisees have been neither corrupted nor hypocritical. The Saducees have been in spite of the incontrovertible fact that. it rather is only extra smearing of the Jews via the recent testomony. there is a great number of that in the time of there like that. that's what occurs whilst a clean device comes as much as take over from the previous. Slander, homicide, etc. and that's what they did.

I have no appreciation for anyone that judges me as destined for hell without knowing my life or personal character.
However I do respect most liberal / mainstream Christians. In fact the majority of my friends are Christians.

I don't think a real liberal Christian would claim that you are going to hell. That's old-school nonsense. A real liberal Christian would believe that those who are good people have some place in eternal life, though maybe not necessary with their Saviour.

Yeah, they're great.
This is a tricky topic for me. On the one hand, it's hard to have anything bad to say about "Unity" type churches that embrace people of all backgrounds and give them that sense of community and togetherness that church is supposed to be all about, when it's not about judging and condemning and preaching and indoctrinating people into abject ignorance.
On the other, it bothers me that this all has to be tied to belief in the legend of Jesus. My respect for the truth makes it impossible for me to acquiesce in fake history, even if it's only "stage dressing" as it were for the sense of community above mentioned. And my sense of justice makes it impossible for me to accept a religion that has ruthlessly slaughtered people by the millions for NOT accepting it.

What about moderate Christians? I get a lot of crap from BOTH kinds of Christians, because either I'm not liberal enough, or I'm too liberal.
Plus I catch all the crap that people throw at conservative Christians.

Liberal Christians are cool people. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't even be considering becoming a Christian once again.
