The church that we are getting married in is very old. I love everything about it except the alter. I honestly do not like anything about the alter and we are not able to move or change anything. The think that bothers me most is the Jesus picture that is in the background. I do not have a problem with Jesus, so dont get on me about that, I just do not want him in my pictures. I need some help with decorating. How can I make this beautiful? We are also not able to remove or cover it up.

Alter:

Any suggestions in decorating the rest of the church is welcomed too. My colors are White and Black with hints of Red.

I was thinking of doing something like this:

http://www.igsproducts.net/Jan07/1336.htm

But I think that it will not be very cheap to make. What do you think about it? Do you think that it would work?

I assume youll do the actual ceremony right in front of the first step? Try thinking of how you can distract the eyes from looking far back to that wall. The action will be in front. This would be a good place to invest in some serious flowers. Since the carpets are dark red, use lots of large, white flowers in front of that little half-wall, set on the floor. This brings the action to the front, and no one will be looking towards the back. Just leave the back alone.
(I dont really like what that church did in your other link. It just looks cheesy and cheap.)
Hope this helps!
PS: Dont worry about the pictures. You can discreetly tell your photographer beforehand your concern, and he will work around it.

I just found a site with thousands of downloadable woodworking plans, it s really great. You can check it out here ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) Here is an honest review : If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where TedsWoodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, TedsWoodworking will change your perception. In Ted's Woodworking you will get everything you need: Diagrams which are detailed with a full set of dimensions, step-by-step instructions how to start your project and the necessary materials for that particular project. All the woodworking tools you will need: If you are a beginner or have done some woodworking you will find these plans easy-to-follow as the instructions are very clearly written. The woodworking plans are straightforward so they are not complicated at all. Even if you are a total newcomer to woodworking you will simply be able to master all the techniques that are needed and the woodworking skills very quickly by following the concise and clear instructions. Another thing which is so great about these woodworking plans is that there have been some videos included and there are some to guide you in how to build benches home furniture dog houses bird feeders sheds and much much more. There is also a lifetime member acess included in the package and you get these extras for no cost to you as they are free with no additional charges at all! This alone is worth the entire price for TedsWoodworking. Ted Mcgrath is a very dedicated and experienced woodworker who knows what he is talking about when it comes to woodworking and DIY projects s he has been a woodworker for many many years. There is only one drawback that we could find and that being with 16,000 woodworking plans you are bound to get some which look a little disorganized but that is understandable as it is very difficult to place all these plans into their proper categories. Secondly, it might take you a little longer to do the downloads on because of the size of them. But the members area include an option to upgrade to the DVD so you can save time on downloading. I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars. Here's the bottom line: If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you SHOULD use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Check the site: ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info )

Actually, I'm not sure that it would be all that expensive to build that structure...Nor would it be really hard. The fact that this company can sell you one for under $300, including the lights and flowers, indicates to me that it would probably be pretty cheap to make.

A few 2 x 2's, or even PVC piping could easily build a structure. Just nail the 2 x 2's together in a rectangle, and add a couple to the back that would lie along the floor perpendicular to the structure, in order to give it stability. You might want to give it a quick coat of white paint, just to camouflage the wood color. Then use a staple gun to tack the fabric and lights to the back of the wood.

While I don't personally find it as attractive as the light wall, you could also use pre-assembled lattice sheets from the hardware store or garden center. They might be a little more expensive, but would probably be less work for you.

I think a bigger problem in the church you're using would be the amount of space available at the altar...The podiums look as if they might be in the way of the structure. If these are movable, it might be good to get them out of the way for the day.

It's an absolutely beautiful, traditional church! Don't worry about what will show up in candid shots of the ceremony - all the focus will be on you and the groom. However, when you will want to take photos of the wedding party, and pics with family, just have them taken down below the steps, and the Jesus picture won't show - it's high enough up that it won't be in the photos.
I don't like the photo you showed that would 'hide' the front of the church - don't do that. It looks really contrived. Instead, maybe just accent the front with those high baskets you can get, that you can put floral arrangements on (You can rent the baskets), and plan to reuse those floral arrangements at the head table for the reception.
With some beautiful pew bows with ribbon, silk flowers and other embellishments, the church will have those touches of colour added - however, go with mostly the red and white for decorating.
Good luck to you!

Tell you photographer to take pictures from different angles if you find the painting of Jesus unsightly. The only thing you could really do is use floral arrangements as a focal point to take away from what you don't like. I would ask if you can drape some fabric under the arrangements to cascade and pool around them. People know there are limits to what can be done to a sanctuary, so don't worry about it too much.

You won't see the picture. Even if it was right at eye level, a good photographer can easily photoshop anything right out of the picture.

It's a beautiful little church. I might even consider having it outside. I'm not real fond of the whole sheet thing though. It looks like something you put over things you don't want to sell at a garage sale.

I like that cover up.. Here is a cheaper way of obtaining that..

You will need...
Lots of white fabric.. enough to go from one end to the other almost.
Those hook plant hangers

Take the stand and find out where you want them placed and measure..
Where you measured to either sew ribbon to the fabric or sew a seam that is big enough for the pole to go through.
Attach the fabric to the poles in the way you want.
Place poles in decorated pots.
Now you have your curtian.

or somewho tie fabric to the bottom of the light fixtures and in the middle find a way to hang from the top of the building.

then decorate with plants and lights.

I don't know what is too expensive for you. Here we can rent columns (a total of four for $150.00 delivered) and they are tied together at the top by a curved header. Upon which you could place flowers, garlands and maybe some bouquets. This could also have some drapery attached to it. It would have a more open feel than your lighted screened picture. Which is very nice your final choice just depends on your tastes and your budget. Congrats...

If you are using that table under it. i would pull it away from the wall and place an arch thing decorated with flowers and suchover the table or just behind it. if you aren't using it the just place an arch up so that you and your soon to be can stand in front of it and the arch would totally camoflauge the picture. to balance things out though i would decorate the little wall things with flowers or whatever also! good luck!
