Don't forget the repairs that it will need after u buy one of these....European car parts are the most expensive and shops don't charge cheap for labor either....My suggestion is getting something more reliable and gas effecient...like a Honda,Acura Integra.....These cars are cool too...

What you have to ask yourself is; what is this going to cost you in the end? You are looking at a $2400 repair for a decent car with only 80,000 and relativly newer model. after it is done it will probably be fine and driven without problems for a while unless you are finding more to be wrong. even if you sold it as is, you might get at most $2000 for the car. so if you take the 2400 and 2000 you have 4400 to spend on a new used car. A $4400 car is not the greatest in the world. you are looking at buying a older model, 98 or older, with higher mileage. as that stands, you are looking at problems even sooner again with your new used car, and therefore going to have to spend more money fixing that, because you will never buy a used car without having to fix something. So, i would say fix the car for your 2400, and be done with payments. That is the best thing, no more payments. so, depending on what your monthly payment was, you could still be saving more money by repairing it. ask yourself how much have you saved since the payments were finished, does it outweigh what the repairs will be? just what i think should be done.

Honestly, your guess is as good as ours.

Let me throw this at you, you can purchase for around $10 grand or less a brand new Ford Focus. I've seen them for summer specials go in the $8,000 range. Now imagine this, buying one of those with 50k miles on it. Not bad and it would be within your price range.

The bigger the brand and/or car the more wear and tear it must have to be in your price range. Smaller cars are cheaper so you will be able to purchase a newer smaller car for less money than you would for say even a Toyota. If you want a mid size sedan at a decent price then check out the Toyota Corolla or Toyota Camry from the 90's. The Camry's were really good vehicles from back then.

If it seems too good to be true, it is.
Any mercedes or BMW in that price range will have a potload of miles and will need constant repair. Buy a decent car and stop worrying about status symbols.

Don't buy a car on the Internet. There are all kinds of anonymous scammers.
If you buy a used car, pick one you can test drive. Find a mechanic who will inspect the vehicle to see if it is in good condition.
A BMW or Mercedes for $5,000 will be an old car expensive to repair.

Well there are scammers ou tthere. I'd go for a mercedes 190 series. that was my first car, fast, reliable, but expensive parts.

i have seen some at the same price range you say and from 1995-200 but i wouldn't buy one of those because it costs you a lot of money to maintain it
