We all know that lying is a sin according to the Bible-

but what if someone says something so STUPID and inherantly incorrect that it might as well have been a lie? Does that still fall under the category of "falsehoods"?

I see that about a thousand times a day on here.

Yesterday some Christian imbecile had the nerve to say that there was more historical evidence for Jesus than Julius Caesar. That's an outrageous and even a stupid lie. We have Caesar's tomb, for Christ's sake! We have writings by Caesar!

Now I assume that he was simply saying this out of ignorance - out of abject, rampant ignorance - and not deliberately lying. But he really OUGHT to know better.

if you've read the "bible" you'd know all about falsehoods, lies and deceptions of religion...

Here's the Solution for falsehoods and religion:

Create a Private, Personal, Direct, Divine Relationship with Our Creator and save Your Soul from religion's and atheist's beliefs and start Your journey back home, to Heaven.

Robert Heinlein said, “The best way to lie is to tell the truth, but tell it in a way that everybody thinks you’re lying.” Even though technically you told the truth your main goal was to deceive. So you lied.
Now if you told something that was not true, but to the best of your knowledge you thought it was true. In this case you did not lie. Even though what you said was not true.

If it's not the truth, it's a... what? My mother always told me that truth is "fidelity to the original". How do we know that our bathroom scales are telling us the truth? Because somewhere over in Germany there sits the original set of scales to which all other scales are measured and compared. Hope this helped!

If someone believes in what they're saying, no matter how divorced from reality it may be, it is not a lie. Lying is an act of volition, to intentionally tell an untruth.

Sorry, it just falls into the stupid and ignorant category. A lie isn't a lie if the person saying it doesn't realize its a lie.

Negative. You have to know that what you are saying is false. For example, you and I can watch the same event happen and describe it differently. Who's telling the truth and who's lying? No one.

a lie is a lie, true, but the circumstances around the lies have to be looked at as well. If he person honestly thought they were saying the truth, you can't really get mad at them. But a lie is a lie.

If someone says something so stupid and inherently incorrect then it just becomes part of the political agenda of one of the political parties.

lying is done with conscience
telling stupid things without knowing that they are stupid and/or incorrect is not lying, for that person it is telling the truth
