Do auto dealerships really mark down new cars in the fall to make room for the new coming years inventory?

I am considering buying a new Ford Fusion and I have been told that in the fall is the best time to buy one, because of all the markdowns and rebate incentives, to get the current year cars off the lot for the upcoming year cars. Like this fall they would be doing sales to get the 2007's off to make room for the 2008's

Is this really true?

Just to add, yes it is true. My friend got his CUV that way. He bought the previous year's model for less than sticker because the new ones were already sitting on the lot.

Fordman that is very generous. The X plan is for friends and family of Ford workers. It saves you $$$ on purchasing new vehicles. I don't think it will matter when you purchase the vehicle with an X plan though.

Yes, Ford for instance shuts down its plants for a couple of weeks in about July so they can do maintenance and the like. Then they start making the next year of cars. Summer or Fall would be a good time since they are trying to make room for the next model year on the lot.

It depends on the brand of car, the release date for the new model and it's popularity. For example, I just bought a 2007 Toyota Highlander hybrid and got a $2,000 manufacturer's rebate. The new redesigned 2008 Highlander comes out in July, so I bought now while the deal was available. So the timing depends on Ford's release date for the new model and now popular the car is.

Keep in mind if you wait too long you may not get your choice of colors or options that you might want.

Yes, dealers discount the left over inventory. The only problem is you will have to buy what is available. January is actually the best time to buy a left over 2007.

Sure, they have to do something to get rid of them. If you want, email me and I'll cut you a "X" plan number, if you are serious.
