Something disposable. Get a large, heavy beater that will protect you in a crash.
You will have your first accident in this car, probably pretty soon after you buy it. That's the normal pattern.
Hopefully you will survive. When you do, the money you will have been saving will help to buy a nice car now that you have some experience and are a better driver.

Personally if you where my daughter I would want you in a good safe car but one that is fun to drive and reliable. I would look at a Subaru Impreza AWD or Legacy GT. Subarus always have excellent crash test ratings and are not uncommon to go over 200,000 miles. Just make sure that the headgaskets have been checked by a mechanic if it is a 2.5 liter engine. :)

Are you a new driver as well? I would buy a large four door sedan. If you are not new to driving, i would get any kind of Toyota. Those cars last forever.
