not actually the way it happened. the country didn't bring in slaves, big business did. many were against the idea for one reason or another.
today, one of the big problems is businesses are virtually recruiting illegal aliens. and again, many are against the idea for one reason or another. but usually not for the humanitarian reasons of our forefathers.

I think "GOLDEN" has the correct answer.
Plantation owners, big businesses in those days, were the slave traders. Its funny that modern day plantations are the ones who would benefit from illegal immigrants the most. Agricultural businesses. Besides, there were many "White" slaves (conscripts) who were brought over in the same general time period. also, there were many "white" slaves who were taken to the sugar plantations in the Caribbean islands, against their will. And they were taken by wealthy blacks. Additionally, women were used as slaves during those times. So, maybe it wouldn't hurt to crack some books, and read about the history of the world, not just the history during your lifetime.

The slavery issue was settled with a war because slavery was wrong; so is illegally coming to another country to take what isn't yours, do we need another war to settle that question as well.
Besides that is in the past, this is now, commerce and society has changed, their is no correlation and this is a stupid, weak, uneducated attempt to make a connnection.

You're talking about past history. I didn't take place in bringing slaves to the US, or purchasing one. I don't know anyone living who did.

wasnt there a war over slavery? "civil war " was it?
i seem to recall some guy named Lincoln,or something like that ,abolishing slavery.
i could be wrong, but maybe, just maybe, Americans realized slavery was wrong ?
there are many citizens who are out of work who would love to work for next to nothing.

That is true. If all the illegals left today I can just about guarantee you our taxes will not go down. Medical costs will still go up. In fact medical costs will always go up. They have been steadily going up for over 30 years of my lifetime. THey go up because of greed not illegals.

It is not hundreds of people, it's millions of people. And my contempt of slave owners is now passed on to the current business owners that hire them.

Simple. We enforce the laws. Illegals are bankrupting our socio-economic structure. We can no longer afford to blindly accept people that shouldn't even be here in the first place.

Because it is ruining our schools and services and draining funds we or our families will need. Their better life is at our expense, and unlike the slaveowners and employers, WE only get below American market wages and ruined schools out of it.
