This can be considered to be a form of animal abuse. Frankly, I was going to make some flip remark that YOU make sure you don't get sick or injured so your mom's vacation isn't compromised, but I can understand your concern about your pet.

Talk to relatives or friends to have this poor animal taken care of. While this might be a drastic decision, you could also try to contact one or two dog rescue groups and may have to sign over custody of the dog to them, but at least those groups will have considerate adults that understand and take care of this dog.

I wish I could give you a better answer, but it's your mother that is being inconsiderate and - yes - cruel in letting your dog suffer, plus incredibly selfish. Hopefully, when she's old and needs to be taken care of, no one will ignore her injuries and go on vacation.

I really feel sorry for you - you're the third young person to post on here recently who is having problems with their pet because their parents won't help.

I guess you either need to change tactics or just take the dog and get a cab or bus to a vets yourself. I would ask your mom what she would do if YOU had broken your leg, and ask why the dog is any different. The dog is a dependent of hers just as you are - ask her why she's being so irresponsible. And you can tell her that a veterinary nurse promises her the dog will NOT be OK! How selfish of her, does she really care more about a vacation?

If you really can't get through to your mom (and you probably won't be able to, there's usually no changing people who think like this) I would just take the dog to a vet myself and get them to send her the bill! Please don't let your mom stand in your way of getting this dog help. I wouldn't hesitate in telling my parents I was disgusted if they were doing this.

I am SO very sorry to be reading this. YES, this dog ABSOLUTELY needs to be looked at by a vet and right away. THE DOG WILL NEVER BE FINE. Please, no more fine than if the same injury happened to you or your Mom.

Even if the dog appears to heal or appears to be in pain but not screaming in pain, the terrier breed, as an example [I run a rescue group for Cairn Terriers] will NEVER give anyone the benefit of saying they hurt or are sick [the little fakers]. Later they could get early onset of leg or back issues.

If your dog is a purebred, you might want to search for a purebred rescue in your area, and consider surrendering your dog to rescue and many will do fundraisers or beg for funds to help get the dog fixed.

AND, one only needs to watch Animal Planet to see first hand EVERY WEEK that animal abuse is absolutely against the law . . . and to say this kindly, this would be abuse.

Tell your mom that the dog needs to be put to sleep by a vet if she doesn't want to get it treated. Try and get her to take the dog and carry it into the vets office. If she does it and goes through with it then you know how much your mom thinks of you and how much she thinks of herself.

Either way, your mom seems like a worthless waste of flesh. Remember how vile she is when you grow up and leave home. Don't waste dime on her when she needs you in the future, and more than likely she will when she gets old, just tell her "karmas a b!tch".

Geezus... your mom is evil. How selfish to choose vacation over the well being of a living creature!

Please call your local humane society/animal shelter and tell them your dog is injured and your mother won't take care of it. You will probably be asked to sign it over to the shelter. As hard as this may be for you, it really is the best thing for your dog. Your mom is definitely not someone that should have pets.

Good for you, though, for coming on here and asking for help. You're obviously a kind and caring young person. Be proud of yourself. I'm hoping it's only a few years till you can be out on your own and have pets of your own. (((HUG)))

i would ask her to take the dog over and over to take her to the vets and say that you will pay her back. If that doesn't get her fully to say yes to take the dog to the vets say that you'll pay her back and do something else for her too like buy her dinner or pay her $10 more that works on my mom most of the time.

you asked " what do u think"

Personally I think your mom's a ....... well

here's the deal if that dog's leg is broke thenit needs a vet. Waiting is only going to cause you more heartache and the dog more pain. Can you tell us more about the injury? how is the dog acting are you sure it's broke? is there bleeding/bruising under the skin? is the dog in pain/shock? can you call the vet w/o mom knowing and ask them to help?

try calling local vets to see if you can make payment arrangements.. lots of vets do this. (not all vets are about the money, some, decent ones, deeply care about animals) explain to the receptionist what is going on and ask for a ride or take the car but your poor doggie needs help. i hope everything goes well

The dog won't be fine. If your mom won't take it to a vet, then try to give to a no-kill shelter that will get it vet care - you won't get to keep it, but at least it won't suffer and it will get help. Otherwise it will be in terrible pain, possibly for its whole life. A broken leg won't heal right unless set by a veterinarian.

tell your mom that if it were your leg that was broken, you'd be taken to the doctor. tell her, too, that if she doesn't take the dog to the vet, you'll call the ASPCA. (and if you do, they may be able to help you get the dog to the vet if your mom still refuses and if you are too young to drive).

i'm really sorry about this. your mom isn't being very responsible here, so kudos to you for being the grown up in this situation!
