It depends on both where and when you are airing it. In the USA, there are ten "dirty words", that the FCC defines as obscene and rule must be censored. You can find them here:

In Canada and Europe, there are no restrictions, although such "dirty TV" typically will not air during daytime hours, because that's when the kids are up.

Since this is the Etiquette section, I would say no profanity is acceptable. Music channels and TV are another story. Watch and take note of what they allow if that is your standard of determining.

I am sure that the FCC has guidelines posted on a website. It also depends on what time the final product (film, video, etc...) will be aired.

You can say damn, hell, @$$, b-i-t-c-h, but you can't say f***, s***, any vulgar terms for body parts, and you can never say any curse with God in it. Like in the Panic! at the Disco video for I Write Sins Not Tragedies, they bleep out the "god" part but leave in the "damn" part, if you notice.
