I would say republicans have won. for the time being, But we are all losing because our government doesn't enforce the law. If this continues it will bankrupt the country. Just enforce the laws that already exist. Go after the employers and give them a hefty fine. Deport the illegals and criminals. Don't give illegals benefits they don't deserve.

well i would say no one won and no one lost.....most hippies here thought that by defeating this bill, the illegals would be kicked out or that they would learn to speak english and fly american flag during mexican independence day.
however, the reality is that this was the only bill that assured the public that illegals would leave the country voluntarily to apply for their Z visas. this bill also assured that they would learn to speak english, pay fines, taxes and get a job to support them selves.....but now since the bill is defeated, nothing will happen for at least 2 years. the illegals will still be here, the border will still be open for millions more to get in by the time next administration gets the process going again......that is if they get the process going again. so i think this is a defeat for us all since pro amnesty didn't get their amnesty and other hippies were never getting their wish to kick 14 million people out in first place.
so long story short the illegals will still be here for many many years....living the same life they live today and mean while the border security wont get their 4.4 billion to seal the border.

The status quo has been preserved and we have dodged a bullet that would have made things worse.
To that extent it was a win for the American people who work for a living, whether democrat or republican.
Note that the Blue Dog Democrat freshmen were as unwaivering, if less vocal, than Sessions and DeMint.
You need to examine the candidate because this issue cuts across party lines.
In terms of actually addressing the issue, putting in place border security signed into law last year, and requiring enforcement in place of sanctuary cities, etc., that will take further effort, no question.

Just because you sweep the dirt under the rug doesn't mean that there is no more dirt (just an example, not an insult to anyone). The defeat of the immigration bill just means that I'll continue paying for the welfare, medical services and education of those who are here illegally. If they were legal they would have to pay taxes and their own medical services. Closing our eyes or turning our head to the problem does not mean we won, it means we are just incapable of solving a problem.

Well a bill that wasnt going to improve the overall situation was defeated for now. That is a good thing, but nobody wins until the immigration issue is actively addressed, the border is secure, the guest worker program is reformed, business are busted who hire illegals, we have a serious handle on identity theft etc etc...

Nobody won, it's just proved one thing, the Senate can't do it's job. We already have 12 millions of them and the Senate says that they probably won't deal with it until 2009 or later. which means that by then, there's probably gonna be at least twice the number. The only that they prove is that they have absolutely no idea how to resolve the problem and that they would rather look at themselves in the mirror every day instead of doing something about it...

Just like before, Nothing has changed. And that is the SAD part of all this. all illegal immigrants remain here, and we will still going to talk about it, without doing anything about it because a bunch of lame ducks in Capitol Hill did not have the "Cojones" to take this bull by its horn and ride it. Solving a problems is dealing with it and finding solutions to it

Illegal immigration lost, the bill was sponsored by the biggest dummies in both parties. Now they need to solve the problem of the 11 million illegal immigrants that are already here, and the 50 million more coming soon.

Nothing happened, just as nothing has happened for the past six years. They failed to come to an agreement, so no decision was made and it will just be business as usual until they decide on something.
