I decided I needed to go to therapy about a month ago, and finally got an appointment.. I went today..
She said she wanted me to get evaluated for meds, but when I was 13 I had mishap with my antidepressants... I have a hard time taking anything now and don't know if I really want to take the chance of screwing up again.. I don't trust myself..
I don't feel bad enough to do anything at this point in time, but who knows what may happen...
I thought if I did get meds my boyfriend can help me out, but I feel like that will too much pressure on him... he has his own meds to take.. (he suffers from depression as well)
it's not his responsibility to distribute my pills, right?
What should I do?
please help me.. this is a serious question, so please don't **** with me..
thanx

I started out seeing a therapist nine years ago (clinical psychologist) and he recommended seeing a psychiatrist to be evaluated for medication. I was suffering from major depression and suicidal. I was on a lot of medications in the past but I am down to two and doing very well. Finding my therapist was a gift from God. Give yourself some time.

The evaluation is a good first step. You don't HAVE to take anything that you don't want to. You have the right to refuse medications. So, you can do that. But being evaluated might be a way to see just how bad things are with you.
I went through a similar situation -- tri-cyclic antidepressants when younger really messed me up. But with a good doctor and the smallest possible dosages to start with (and I mean, about 1/4 what is usually recommended as minimum, even!), we were able to find a medication that at 1/2 the lowest normal dosage gave me NO side effects and helped me out a LOT. I took it for 6 months, to get past a very, very bad time in my life and was able to go off of them again very easily and with no troubles.

First I would skip the therapist altogether. Anyone can call themselves a therapist, if Charles Manson was out of prison he could call him self a therapist.
Second if you think you need help go to a psychiatrist, not just any though... research them out. Some psychiatrists are pill happy and some are completely against meds, you need to find one in the middle of the road.
Third, dump the boyfriend. The last thing someone suffering from depression needs is to be in a relationship with somone who's also depressed. You boyfriend might make a good partner in a support group setting but as bf/gf your playing a dangerous game.

First of all, never take anyone elses meds. Ever. Bad idea and you can really get sick. lol. As for whether or not you need meds, it really depends on your level of illness or percieved illness. Most depression is better treated with counselling, lots of it. Rarely do you need meds for this. Most depression comes from outside issues, rarely biological ones. Get a second opinion from a different doc at a different hospital and see what they say. Drugs are not M&M's and should not be given out to make it easy to treat a patient.
The side effects can outweigh the positives. Stopping them suddenly can cause death by suicide. Try counselling first. There are some really good ones out there.

The best thing would be to speak to the psychiatrast and try another medication. It may take several different medications before finding the one that works for you.

Talk to your doctor and let him/her know that you are not comfortable with taking any more meds. Make sure you are getting enough exercise. Exercise is great for getting those endorphins making you feel good. So please get enough exercise! What has your boyfriend got to do with your medications???? See if there are other things you can do to help with your problem.

How can you skrew up antidepressants? I used to take them and it's not like they make you high...at least not the ones they use nowdays. Trust your therapist and tell her if you're concerned. If you are honest and take the right medication, you'll feel much better.
