From my past experience a vindaloo is a very hot curry, one not to be attempted by the newbies, but for proper blow your head off insanity you may want try a phall.

Phal is reputedly the hottest curry on the menu in UK Tandoori restaurants, but any curry, even the mildest, can be made hot by the simple addition of additional chilli.
Vindaloo is an interesting curry - some say it should contain potatoes (aloo); others claim that it is a dish from Goa ( a former Portuguese colony in India) and is thus a meat dish cooked in Portuguese wine (vin d'alhos).
I had the very good fortune, as a reservist (weekend warrior) with the UK Armed Forces, to spend my two weeks annual training on board a vessel of the Indian Navy, during which I was trained by Indian Navy cooks (in the Navy, one is always a cook, not a chef) in the cooking of authentic Indian food. This was because the UK was keen to attract our ethnic minorities to join our Armed Forces, and their volunteer reserves.
My 2 weeks training on the next year was spent in the Pakistani Frigate Babur, in which I learned the mysteries of Pakistani cooking. ( The Pakistanis were very nice to me - I found a box in the galley of the ship addressed to me as 'essential chef supplies' - when I opened it, I found four bottles of Plymouth Gin, a bottle of Angustera bitters, and a bottle of 'Pussers' rum) - the Pakistanis, being Moslems, do not drink alcohol. The Captain told me to hide the drink in the meat-safe and not let the crew see it, or smell drink on my breath. However, we sailed to Mombasa, Kenya, and the sailors returning to the ship did not all walk in a straight line!
What you get in many Tandoori restaurants in the UK does not equate in the least to traditional cooking from India and Pakistan. However, eat and enjoy. Indian/Pakistani/Persian cuisine ranks equal to that of France or Italy in my book. Simply be as courteous to the waiters as they are to you

Vindaloo is hot and sweet curry. Real hot curries are made in 'Satara' city in Maharashtra state, India or Andhra state.

Yes, Phal is the hottest.
I have found that it is so hot, that it almost burns the mouth. It helps if you have several pints of beer beforehand.
The problem with currys of this hotness, is that you cannot generally taste the meat (or much else, for that matter).
Make sure you have plenty of toilet roll for the morning. Ouch!
