I lived in SW Austin for just 4 years. It is much cleaner and newer than Hyde Park, Campus and the north side. Apartments are getting more expensive as many people are moving there. I would contact a Realtor or visit: rent.com for ideas. There are many jobs at the paper: statesman.com or you could find a job through an agency like Adecco.

Salaries would be in the 40s for your experience and you could work in government, banking or private industries.

There are many non-denominational churches mainly on campus.

I dont think you can find a decent apartment in that price range in Austin...you might want to look north to a neighboring city like Round Rock or Pflugerville.

Round rock area is very nice "suburb" to the Austin city.
