Small towns can be very intolerant. However they do not believe Christianity is the only religion. You will find books on Judaism,Buddhism,Islam, etc. But they do have problems with Wicca becuase they associate it with satanism and "teenage satanism" is a problem is many small communities. I'm not suggesting these youths acquire magic powers, and it is just a phase borne of ordinary rebelliousnes, but they often do desecrate cemetaries, scrawl pentagram graffitti everywhere and in extreme cases torture small animals, even pets. This is predominately a small-town-America problem for some unknown reason. So there is a heightened sensitivity. I would download some info about Wicca and talk to your librarian. The books may have been stolen by teenagers who confuse it with satantic lit,or by fundies who don't want it on the shelf. The only solution unfortunately is for the book not be available for check-out - in-library use only. It's better than having it stolen, but no,it isn't fair.

They are probably dealing with the small town thinking, try asking one of the librarians if they know why there are none. I know in the library at my small town they have several books on Wicca but no religious books can be checked out, they have to be read there.

Why don't you buy some books on Wicca and donate them to the library in your town? That'd be a great thing for you to do!

Sure, people go to libraries. It's cheaper than buying books. Lots of people enjoy reading. Students go to libraries to get books for research projects.

People still use books, even though the internet is widely available.

Almost every library, regardless of how small, has interlibrary loan. Ask your librarian how to use it, and check out whatever you like.

My library here has plenty of books on Wicca. True, more on Christianity and Islam, but still, Wicca is definitely represented.

Well, Christians do make up a large majority of the population, at least in the US.

You may need to go to a larger library or request certain books from another library in the branch. Good luck.

Well people do check out books from the library. Plus it could be that the last person that had them just didn't return them. Maybe some fundie found them and threw them away. Who know?

Can't you get your library to borrow from another library? I think they will do that.

Get off your duff and donate some.

Libraries don't have a lot of money. Small town libraries are very poor. So they probably buy what is most popular.

MOST of their books are donations.

Teens steal them because they are sampling Wicca to try to fit in and some Christians steal them because they are afraid of Wicca. Usually those teens are Christians.

Someone should make some kinda commandment about stealing for those Christians.

maybe the Library just recognizes that most of their clients are Christians and want to remain in good business w/ them. God bless.
