I haven't ordered pizza delivery since college, when I'm fairly sure I must sometimes have answered the door, and I was quite often shirtless in my dorm room or suite.

But I now answer the door shirtless w/o knowing who it is. So in spirit, I guess I still qualify. And no (since this is the Etiquette section), I don't think it's rude.

Answering in underwear IS rude, even if you've got a stripper-quality bod. It doesn't matter if your UW covers way more than your Speedos (which would be polite enough), it's not good form!

Good golly...if the *worst* thing I had seen in my years running a pizza place, and sometimes delivering, was a shirtless guy, I would have been a whole lot better off. I mean, some things you just can't un-see. And boy, do I wish you could!

I have seen it all, from girls in see-thru nighties to guys in boxers, to old guys with just a robe on--that is of course coming un-knotted and flopping open, to girls with a little too much self-confidence who answer the door in a too-short nightie and no underwear... How about the girls who gave one of my drivers the 'tip' of answering the door wearing nothing but bath towels, dog collars, and leashes?

So, to answer your question, the pizza guy (or girl) has probably seen a lot more than a shirtless guy, and most likely won't even think twice about it.

In the first place I am not a guy. But if ever I am a guy, I will never answered the door for the pizza delivery person shirtless. It will only show that I have bad etiquette and have bad manners in answering the delivery person shirtless. Good impression in accepting people should start on how you will present your self to him or to her and how will you also give respect to him.

It depends on the circumstances.
I live in a very hot country and men (at home) rarely wear shirts in the early evening, because of the humidity.
I would frown upon someone dressed only in briefs/boxers. But even this seems like a false modesty when you compare it with some of the beach clothes which are worn in public.
I once inadvertently answered the front door totally naked, apart from a towel slung over my shoulder. I had just had a bath and was in the middle of a day dream when the door bell rang and it wasn't until my neighbour started laughing that I realised I was still undressed. I had a total 'blush' from head to toes.

Haven't done that but if I was shirtless and delivery person's at the door, I will have no problem answering it shirtless.

I have answered the door shirtless because I am the King of my castle. Like James Brown said, I've "Paid the cost to be the Boss"!

I wouldn't suggest it. Most people aren't aware of how they're seen by others. I know a lot of people who think they're hot enough to answer the door without a shirt, but in reality, they could lose about 15lbs.

Just put a shirt on. The pizza man drove all the way from the restaurant... the least you could do is throw a shirt on.

My guy has because it's summer and he just didn't have a shirt on. The whole reason for delivery is so you don't have to get dressed up to go out.

I would answer the door and pay my pizza, but won't give him any tip. It is just not a santizing appeal, you can call the pizza place and talk to the manager about this.
