Oh, my gosh, thank you for asking this! I have no answer - but I'm wondering this too - why does Yahoo Answers have to be so MEAN? Maybe I sound like a Pollyanna asking this...but surely we can debate/discuss issues w/o reverting to hate-speech. Gosh - Imus got kicked off the air for saying stuff that wasn't as bad as what people write on here all the time (Imus was wrong by what he said, don't misunderstand me) but it seems to me we all can clean up our speech and at least communicate with each other in an intelligent way. Geez...

Because for many people, being intolerant, aggressive, terrorising, nasty and unforgiving is wayyyyy more fun than holding back our judgement till we understand others as they are and not as we JUDGE them to be. You don't need to be Spiritual at all for either of those... just makes it more justifiable to USE religion as a shield for our own bad habits and nastiness.

these are volatile subjects for which people have very strong opinions and emotional attachments. The opposing views create tension naturally.

Well I think that is where you find the most 'judging' going on in conjunction with the way people are. Your life or beliefs are being constantly challenged in those categories.
