Stupidity mainly. People being brainwashed from birth, desperation. The local church is full of oldies as the closer they get to death the more they are worried about it being the end. Lots of people believe because they want to believe and manage to convince themselves they are going to heaven or wherever.

Heaven isn't above the sky doesn't imply heaven doesn't exist.

Personally I understand the bible concept of heaven as been completely separated from all of creation. So even if you could prove that heaven is nowhere in any dimension of our universe you still would not of convinced me it isn't real.

I do understand though how upsetting it is to believe in a concept and realise it is not true. I believed all I was taught in my science class until got to university and realised you cannot actually prove anything with science, only disprove things. Everything I was taught is merely a theory and things taught only a 100 years ago are laughable now. What I learnt even at university less than 10 years ago is already out of date.

But you have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water, science is an extremely useful tool that models and helps us to understand our world. Your understand of heaven was flawed, that doesn't mean you have to give up on the concept entirely. Look into the concept with adult eyes and make your own decisions what is true.

The sky was designated as Heaven by Christians as it was one of the few laces they could not reach, and where they believe God is at the moment. All that proving Heaven is not in our atmosphere has done is convince the Christians that Heaven is further away.

Anyway, Heaven is a symbol for purity, i.e you will go to Heaven - and be with God - if you stay pure.

Who proved that? The only thing I know above the bright blue sky is the sun that is getting bigger and will eventually burn all the planets up now that have been proven.

Because heaven is a completely different state than anything we have here, some people need to be able to underline the fact that it is "other than" what is on earth--so in a sense it's "out there somewhere".

Where it is, or what it is, has nothing to do with the fact of its existence.

You choose not to believe in it, for whatever reason. Fine, go with that. You'll eventually find out.

Of course, by then it will be too late....

Actually, I've always thought of it as being out past all of the "stuff." you know, past the planets and all of that. Well, since we still haven't even reached the end of those, how could we have proven there's no heaven? What I don't get is why people today think that just because we have more knowledge today then we did 200 years ago we know everything. Don't you think that 100 years from now a lot of the things that are "known" will be proven wrong?

Its true, it does seem quite silly when reading old biblical text about Jesus floating on clouds up into heaven, or angels coming down from heaven. I suppose if angels were to come down today the Hubble would see them coming.
On a similar note, what about the idea of the ground splitting up and falling into hell?

People then had a limited understanding of everything. With todays knowledge you'd think people now would see through those old myths?

And scientist once that that heavier object fell faster than lighter ones. Men can make errors. The Bible is clear when it talks about ascending. It says the third heaven.. Didn't know there were three did you? One the heavens where the birds fly and clouds float by.. Two the sun moon and stars float in the blackness of space. Three the throne of God.. You still haven't explored the third heaven.. Jim
