You did the right thing, so don't worry! I would of done the same thing. The ACC will not put it to sleep. The worst that they would do to the dog, would be to put him in a shelter. If you really want the dog, call the vet today and tell them that if no one claims the dog in the next 10 days, that you are willing to take care of him and welcome him into your house! But, if your husband has a problem with that, then I would cross out calling the vet. Talk to your husband today before calling the vet and tell him why you think you need the dog. How will he make your life better? Also, instead of begging to keep the dog, remind your husband that you have 10 days to think about it and talk it over some more. That way, your husband won't get mad at you for your begging. I hope that you end up keeping the dog! Good luck!

I you did the right thing but if you have time and a few extra dollars you could try calling the local shelter to see if anyone is looking for the pup and maybe put an ad in the paper that you found him. I would also try to find a rescue group (www.petfiner.com for list} to see if they have a space for him. There would be a better chance in a rescue group of a dog not being put down. If the pup does go to the shelter, puppies are highly adoptable so chances are he would find a home.

I feel that you did the right thing. If no one comes to claim the dog and you have decided to take, be sure to let the vet know before they call AC. There is a chance that the puppy could be put to sleep if it goes to AC or a shelter. But it is a puppy and it would most likely get adopted out quickly. Or you could take him home and if you can't keep him, contact a rescue that will take him into a foster home. If the puppy goes into a rescue there would be no chance at all he would be put to sleep.

i know how you feel. this has happened to me many times over the years. i have had 6 strays and one was pregnant. i did bring them all in .at the time i had 9 dogs, it was hectic and my hubby was livid, but after i fed them and cleaned the up i found good homes for them. i was lucky that i had 75 acres so no one was the wiser. if you are really concerned for the pup ask your hubby if it would be ok to bring him home and take care of him, then maybe you could find him a good home when he is at full strenght.possibly a family member!!i'm not sure how the animal control does its work there, but here in canada the humane society finds homes for the strays without putting them to sleep. i have 3 dogs now and the last one was brought to me the day he was to be put down. its been over a year and hubby really took to the little guy.lots of luck.

You definitely did the right thing. The vet can keep the puppy safe and if the owner comes to get him, he'll be returned home. If he's a puppy, and animal control comes to get him, they'll also wait to see if the owner comes to get him. If not, he will probably get adopted quick because he's a baby. Why not talk to your husband and ask if you can foster the dog if he doesn't get picked up by his owner? That way, you can make sure he's safe and look for a suitable home for him. And maybe your husband will be ok with it because you're not asking to keep him.

Absolutely you did the right thing, I wish more people would do this when they see a stray dog!
I saw a dog wandering round the street early one morning, it was getting into the road on a corner. It didn't have a collar on but it seemed to be going to one house, so I banged on their dog to get them to get their dog out the road, but they didn't answer, so I went back to my house to get a lead and paper to write a note - when I went back they'd let the dog in (I only knew because I knocked on their door again and heard the dog yapping inside, they still didn't answer). So I put a new note through their dog telling them to take better care of their dog!! My sister thought I was being really interfering but I dont care, I only care about the welfare of animals. I wouldn't hesitate to take care of a stray dog, I keep a lead in my car in case I come across any.

There are so many strays. You can't rescue all of them. Next time call animal control to pick up the dog or cat.

WAIT STOP! Goto www.petfinder.com ! Find a local animal rescue that will take it and it will not have to be put to sleep. Do not goto any pounds. Some shelters are fine, but rescue centres are best.
