It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or if I eat at noon, 1 pm, or 2 pm. I could have pasta, or a chef salad, or just a piece of fruit, but I still get so tired after lunch. Does this happen to everyone? Why?

It's because the majority of your blood gets diverted to the digestive system where your stomach etc. begin to work. This diversion of blood lowers the amount of oxygen available to other parts of the body giving you that "tired" feeling.

This is also why it's not good to eat HUGE meals as they will make you lethargic and you'll end up vegging out.

If you don't have enough protein on board for breakfast or lunch, you will not feel alert in the daytime. Limit carbs to a small serving at breakfast, have a carb snack like half a bagel an hour before lunch, then eat protein and veggies for lunch. When it's time to de-stress, unwind, and take care of yourself in the afternoon and evening, have a late afternoon snack of pretzels or popcorn, then focus on mainly wholesome carbs like whole grain pasta and veggies, and have a carb snack like fat free cookies or low fat breakfast cereal before bed. Carbs let your brain make serotonin which controls appetite but also relaxes you and makes you feel good. you can learn more in "The Serotonin Power Diet" book http://www.serotoninpowerdiet.com. Carbohydrates turn into quick energy, thus resulting in a quick fall from that energy. White breads, potatoes and such are carbo's. Carbs are stored as glucose to which turns into fat. Change what you eat and how. Yes we need carbs in our diets, but we have to learn, by trial and error, which ones are for our bodies. I personally know I cannot eat the starchy carbs such as potatoes, white breads etc. for I rise and fall very quickly. And of course we tend to go for fast foods with a lot of starches and fats.

I agree with Wonderwall and Dr. Kumar. Also, people tend to experience a lull in arousal sometime in the afternoon due to their natural circadian rhythm.

It happens to me when I eat a very heavy meal or one loaded with a lot of carbs. It's probably because all my energy is going into digestion. =)
